Are people on this board too young to remember E. Smith and M. Irvin?

All I keep reading here (and in the media) are controversial posts debating whether Dallas should have drafted F. Jones or Mendenhall and may argue for the latter. But even among those who argue for Felix Jones, nobody is talking about the comments Jerry Jones made about Felix Jones having a “Michael Irvin” work ethic and team mentality, and a lower body build similar to E, Smith’s - with similar elusiveness but with more speed. Are posters just not fazed by such comparisons, or have most forgotten, or simply are too young to know, these two 90’s Icons?

It’s a legitimate question because anyone who remembers and can appreciate a Michael Irvin and an Emmitt Smith, should also understand and appreciate Jerry Jones’ affinity for them, and further acknowledge the significance behind Jerry Jones’ comparisons of Felix Jones to these 90s Icons. Jerry Jones won Super Bowls with Emmitt and Irvin. Both are/will be Pro Bowlers. Trust me, Jones does not throw their names around liberally. In fact, I have never heard him EVER compare anyone to Irvin or Emmitt since they’ve played/retired, and I find it VERY SIGNIFICANT that Jerry Jones is comparing Felix Jones’ abilities to those of these two storied players.

If I can point to anything that makes me comfortable with the Felix Jones pick, it is these comparisons – these alone – to Irvin and E. Smith that have me convinced he was the right pick – the only pick – truly worthy of a Dallas Cowboys first-round draft selection. Jerry Jones simply would not throw around such comparrisons around if they did not have real teeth to them, yet mostly everybody here and in the media seem to let this go by unnoticed. What gives?

Are these comparisons only being made by Jerry?? If people outside the organization are saying this, then I'll start listening. If it's Jerry trying to convince us he made the right pick, I'll reserve judgment until I see him in a game with the star on his helmet.

You'd have to be pretty young not to remember those guys. We're talking about 12-14 years ago when they were at their pinnacle here.

i was 40 when irvin and smith were playing in early 90's;;

thing about irvin, he didnt have the deep deep speed, but he worked hard, stayed in shape, was usually last player off the field even in pratice,

same thing for smith in his early years,

now i dont know felix jones yet, but what i could see on film he is fast and elusive exactly what we need in the running game, and it seems like felix is determined to be the best, i heard that mcfadden said we would be real happy with him,

As I said, the fact is Jerry Jones has never made such comparisons with other players he as drafted and touted in the past. Regardless if this is only Jerry making these comparisons, the fact that he is making them adamently on Felix Jones' behalf is quite noteworthy; dismissing this as just another "sales pitch" would be quite ignorant.

Part of the reason he hasn't compared many players to them is because it hasn't been that long since they were here. Whether he's made the comparisons before or not doesn't matter to me, considering Emmitt only retired 3 seasons ago.

Jerry's said a lot of things about a lot of players. He's a salesman. I'm not buying what he's selling until I see it for myself.

He said this about Quincy Carter...
“We want a perception among the team and fans that we have a player who gives us a chance to win it all,” Jones said.

I'm pretty sure peplaw06 is pubescent, or nearly there.

He'll probably touch the ball at least 20 times a game. Probably a little over ten carries a game and he'll be used on kickoffs and in the passing game. JJ last year touched it about 14 a game and his performance was going down the tubes as the season went along.

Jeerry Jones never compared Pittman to Haley or Martin to Moose. Jones is also high on Demarcus Ware and Deion Anderson and has not ever used their names in conjunction to Haley or Mosse, so I fail to see the point of your post.
