Are the Cowboys really the laughing stock of the NFL

Well the jokes on the people who think we're the "laughing stock of the NFL", why would the 2nd most successful franchise (in terms of super bowl wins) in the entire NFL also known widely as "America's Team", be looked upon as a joke?

Because we've had a long drought of playoff success? That still doesn't negate the past success of this franchise which 99% of the NFL teams would die to have, including teams like New England, New York, Green Bay, Indianapolis, and the list could go on and on.

I mean, before 49ers got Harbaugh they had 8 years in a row with 0 playoff appearances (03-10), does that mean they were the joke of the NFL? I mean if you think being one of the only three teams with 5 or more Super Bowls is a joke, then I guess so.

Even the most successful franchises have long stretches of time lacking of playoff success, that doesn't take away from their past success though.

I think so many people holding on to our past success makes us more of a laughing stock. Someone laughs at us/ you and all we can say is "so at least we have 5 Super Bowl titles". It gets really old after a while. I know if I as a fan get tired of hearing it, so fans from others teams just hear it and laugh since we have pretty much irrelevant for the last 20 years.

As a Giant fan, I don't think you are the laughing stock at all. As with any rival (especially with one as prominent as Dallas), fans would like you to be the laughing stock and will look for news fodder to suggest you are, but the team is regularly in contention and always viewed as a threat.

Your ownerships insistence on being in the limelight, your elaborate stadium, big screen, dancers etc will always be a target, but as long as the team is in contention I don't think you can be considered the laughing stock of the league.

The Cowboys don't really compare to the Browns' "Factory of Sadness", I don't think...

Both are pathetic in their own ways. The Browns are like a homeless person. The Cowboys are like Justin Bieber - popular and they should have everything in the world going for them but they just cannot get it together and their trials, tribulations, and train wrecks play out in spectacular public fashion.

Dallas = newsworthy

Bash Dallas = angers Dallas fans and makes others howl

Praise Dallas = angers others and makes Dallas fans happy and talking Cowboys

Either way most of football is either Dallas fan or NOT Dallas fan. So it works. It sells.

17 years with 1 playoff win disagrees with you.

So are the 49ers (5 Super Bowls) a laughing stock? I mean they did have an 8 year drought without a single playoff appearance (03-10). Or what about the Steelers (6 Super Bowls), are they a laughing stock? I mean they also had a long drought, they went 24 years without a single playoff appearance (48-71). I mean at least we haven't had droughts that long, our longest streak without a playoff appearance has only been 6 years.

The fact is every team in the NFL has droughts they go through, unless you consider EVERY team in the NFL a "laughing stock", then Dallas is not a laughing stock. :D

Well, if you're going by the past 20 years then we've actually been among the most
successful, that is if your goal is to win super bowls.

Super Bowl Winners for past 20 years

Ravens 2
Giants 2

Packers
Saints
Pittsburgh 2
New England 3

Tampa Bay
St. Louis
Denver 2
Green Bay
Dallas 2

Also, I'm curious as to what is this magic number where you're considered "holding onto the past", is it 5 years? 10 years? 15 years? 20 years?

Here's why we are the laughingstock. Our owner makes us one by saying things like, "wins don't matter because its a great show. Its good entertainment.". He says things like "our defensive line is the strength of this team". He spews to the media that "JG is in training and he has to go through these losing years so we can appreciate when he succeeds."

Shall I continue? He pays guys like Ratt, Austin, and Tony these insane contracts and then tries to sell them to us fans. He makes draft licks like Quincy Carter and Matt Johnson, and passes guys like Randy Moss and Stephen Jackson.

We can do this all day. We are a reflection of Jerry Jones. He's laughable so then we are too....

I keep reading that the Cowboys are the laughing stock of the NFL.

This gets brought up from time to time but I never, ever hear or read anything about us being the laughing stock of the NFL. If it's out there I'm not aware of it.

I keep reading that the Cowboys are the laughing stock of the NFL.

To me it reads like an overused talking point by a group of drama queens doing what they do best.

So if you've used that statement please let me know why you feel that way.

Because I am truly curious.

Cuz if middle of the road is to be considered laughing stock material I'd hate to see what happens if this team hits a Cleveland Brown type stretch.

I don't know if they are laughing stock but I hear very few fans taking them serious. I think Dallas has become more of a marketing team than football team. Good for Jerry bad for us.

This is not a static situation. As of today, yes, they're oft a punchline - and well-deserved at that. If this club ever gets back to a football-first culture, we might see this dynamic change.

And while anyone can recognize this franchise carries a higher degree of visibility than most, it only serves to amplify the laughter.

It is good to know we are not the Cleveland Browns. And not being the ugliest girl at the school dance is what it's all about. Good times.

Jerry Jones's Dallas Cowboys are certainly one of the laughingstock teams of the NFL. From the Jerry tron that causes fans to sit on their arses, to the pole dancers, to the failed big time FA signings, to the mediocre drafts to the Jones drunken rants, to the handling of Brent, Dez, etc., to the handling of Jimmy Johnson to the embarrassing firing of Landry, to the coaches being puppets, to the .500 record or worse since Johnson left, to Jerry's pampering star players, to the disastrous handling of the salary cap, etc, etc, etc.
