They lost to the Packers last week. The lowly Green Bay Packers.

Are they a legitimate team still, or are the wheels coming off the hinges?

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

I picked the Commanders to beat the Eagles this weekend in my Pick'em league. I just don't think they are going to win. Especially not after their showing in Green Bay.

They are off to a rough start.

Special teams is a big issue and will likely plague them throughout the season. they may lose another game soley due to special teams.

The defense can be good, but their secondary doesnt scare anyone anymore, they did get a good rush on Favre all day though, but i think the pack has a bad Oline.

On offense McNabb may take a few games to get in a groove, you never know with him , he could come out and light it up next week, but i think he's gonna be up and down for the early part of this season.

Westbrook is about 3/4 of their offense, and the guy mcnabb looks to when things go south or pressure comes, the lack of other good receivers will hurt them. K Curtis will be Good in this offense, he is the deep threat/homerun guy. but if you take that long pass away and put a spy on westbrook - you stop the eagles offense and force a lot of 3 and outs. The defdense is not good enough to bail them out if the offense has a lot of 3 and outs.

I'm biased but I think they'll take a bit to find their groove. I don't want to underestimate them because an Eagles team at home against a division rival is dangerous. But you got McNabb that just doesn't look 100% yet, Shawn Andrews is hurting, Dawkins supposedly had some kinda injury, that may be slowing him down, Kevin Curtis has got to adapt to his new role, Lito Sheppard is out for a month, they got a bunch of guys in the LBs corps that (besides Spikes) are young and probably still adjusting to the game and not to mention, Spikes has to adjust to the Philly scheme. LJ Smith is still recovering from whatever hurt him in training camp. Ried has got a plathera of problems on his plate too.

So, I think it's going to take about half a season before they kinda get going and it might be too late by then (people forget just how injury prone Westbrook is and McNabb isn't likely to make it much longer). But I definitely think, provided the team stays relatively healthy for the season, they'll be much more dangerous the second half then they will the first.

Green Bay was at home and they are supposed to have a top ten, possibly top five defense this year. If not for some serious special teams flaps, the Eagles would have won this game. The Eagles Defense looked pretty good and had Favre running all day. They may struggle some early, but they should still be considered the team to beat until Dallas can prove otherwise. Just my two cents after watching the game.

I think they are still the team to beat, their Oline mauled us last yr with Fergie in..... Maybe Ratliff's quickness can give them some troulbe, but they've dominated our Dline the last two years.

Thier Dline is deep and they have the best DC in the game. Their LB's are inexperienced/unfamiliar with the scheme. The secondary is good.

If Reid decideds to run the ball they'll be damn good if he remains stubborn, they'll have troubles.

I will say it was unusual for them to play poorly in a season opener. Just how good is that Young Packers Defense?

YOU certainly hope so dont you? :laugh1:
But knowing the Eagles they will trounce the Commanders and guys like Tom Jackson and Ron Jaworski and the schwami will have him rated #1 by end of the game.

For the record. I want the skins to win... Dallas 2-0 - everyone else 1-1 or 0-2

I hope they go 3-12, with their wins coming against the Giants and Commanders.

Actually, I think McNabb is about done. He was what, 15-33 with 1 TD and 1 pick against the Pack? They drafted Kolb for a reason.

If the Commanders won, wouldn't that make the Boys and skins (assuming a dallas victory of course) both 2-0? So shouldn't you hope for an eagles victory?

My bad.... Eagles win. Giants lose. Everybody at 1-1 and 0-2

I tend to pay less attention to the insignificance of the "other" teams in the nfl.

The Dallas Cowboys ARE the NFL.... everything else is just...........................

The eagles are still going to be good. they lost cause of those two muffed punts, the D looked good and Mc Scabb will probably be better than he was last week. I still say we are right with them and as the year goes on hopefully we can be better outright.

Also keep in mind that Green Bay is a young team that finished last year very strong. It could turn out they win 10 or 11 games - Philadelphia's loss wouldn't look nearly as bad if that happens.

I agree completely. It's time to find out if the Skins can play up to some decent competition. Is their run defense for real, and can they stop the deep pass (the problems of yesteryear gone?). And on the offensive side, we can be relatively sure that the run game appears to be in good shape, but was the problems in the passing game due to an excellent defense, first game jitters by JC or is there another reason for a sub-average passing game (one less fixable)?

On the Eagles side of the ball, I don't care how bad special teams were, if you only put up 13 points against just about any team in the league, you aren't going to win a lot of games. Will Reid continue his inexplicable desire to throw the ball with a less than 100% McNabb or will he finally realize his best offensive player is Westbrook? Can McNabb show that he is back completely from the injury? Can they even show some sign of slowing down the run? How important is Lito Sheppard anyways? Can they get consistent pressure on a relatively good Skins OL and a mobile QB?

There will be a lot of hints next weekend, but I don't think 2 games will give us those answers.

Only if McFlabb gets injured again. As long as he is the starter, they won't even make the playoffs.
