so hurd and stanback aren't quality players. how many teams have their #5 or #6 wr as QUALITY guys? we still have owens, williams, crayton and austin. that's deeper than a majority of teams out there. your 5th and 6th are supposed to be special teams players that can contribute every once in a while. that's exactly what we have. the original topic was about getting a burner to stretch the field. we don't need that IMO. we need to pound the ball instead of forcing it downfield and putting it all on romo's shoulders.
By quality depth, that's what I mean, guys that can contribute not just as their position but on special teams. Hurd has never really been much of a special teams guy and again, Stanback is a project-gone-bust.
Also, when injuries strike (like they did this year) you better hope your #5 and #6 can step up.
In Higgins you get a guy that can be a speedster/helpful WR and legitimately compete for that #3 spot PLUS he's a big time special teams contributor and has proven himself there. I believe that having a speedster...that threat can help the run game because it forces defenses to either go with man-coverage or to dedicate at least one safety over the top to help the CBs. If you get a speedster that can go across the middle on slants (like Higgins made a career of in college), that against forces either safeties to commit or LBs to peel back to cover (which they can't).
