I know there are tons of Zeke threads, but thought this topic was specific enough to warrant its own.

I like that we're treating him as a bell cow, but don't see the need for 25+ carries. He's the more talented, explosive back and we need to get a lot of value out of him over his rookie contract to justify the investment. I get that. But losing him to injury could prove to be the difference between making and missing the playoffs in a tight NFC.

I love Morris as a back up and think he could be a very solid starter for us, but he's not a playmaker or a game changer. I think he should be getting more carries now so that Zeke is fresh and healthy down the stretch.
good for now bad for later

20-25 carries a game with some 15 carry games and some 30 carry games, Zeke is 21 years old we are not gonna have to use him like that his whole career. Zek just needs to build a rep and run behind that line and he should be ok for about 7-10 years.

Personally, I would like Zeke to be the 1-3.5 quarters runner, let morris handle closing out a game. Morris is under estimated. Now if Dunbar or Jackson was the primary back up then yes run Zeke all game but you have what is a proven high caliber runner behind him in Morris, might as well use him, if not trade him.

Zeke is closing the game period, give Morris carries in between

Why right now Zeke is running with reckless enthusiasm, I like his style but if we have a guy that runs just as well with a different style we need to use him. Morris is more of hammer than Zeke.

absolutely. I want 20 carries a game for next 5 years...then big thank you as we goes elsewhere for 2nd contract.

We have Morris and there are other ways to get him the ball other than passing it. I'd like for him to be worth a second contract.

Not really.

I do think he needed to get some extra carries from the perspective that he didn't play much in preseason and he's still adjusting to a zone scheme. But, it was ridiculous to feed him the ball 28 against the hapless Bears.

I would prefer him around 18-22 with the expectation in some big division games or later in the season he may get 30 plus carries in a few games. Although I wasn't crazy seeing him get 30 carries against the lowly Bears.

But you said he needed to prove he is as good as Murray to justify the pick a few month ago ........ why would you not want him to get Murray like carries?

Trying not to burn him out like we did with Murray.

There was no reason why we couldn't have gotten Murray under 380 carries in 2014, but boy wonder's job was on the line so he didn't care about the future.

Its EXACTLY why we drafted him. If he cant handle 25-30 touches a game he was a wasted pick.

I would prefer Zeke get 25 carries a game. Trust me, that's a good sign for the Cowboys if he averages 25 a game.

SO you do not want to get him Murray like carries to get Murray like numbers.

Gotcha.

It's about efficiency. If I can get him in the 4.7-5.2 yards per carry like Murray did in his career here, THAT is what matters more than somebody that runs the ball 28 times in a game where we had complete control of the game.

It's not Murray's fault (nor would it be Zeke's fault) that Garrett can't figure out how to use his running backs properly to allow them to be effective without burning them out.

And let's not forget...Murray was a 3rd round pick, Zeke was the FOURTH OVERALL PICK. As I mentioned many times. you can find GREAT running backs outside the first round. So from an efficiency standpoint, yeah....Zeke has to perform at Murray's level to justify the pick because of so many vastly productive and efficient tailbacks that have been found outside of the first round.
