My very first computer (that I owned) was a Commodore VIC-20 :) First computer I ever worked on was an Apple II (before the IIe). I loved the Atari 8-bit computers most of all though.

Well never to let Primavera get the upper hand:), I am the Network Administrator for Meridian Project Systems, the arch nemesis of Primavera. My areas of expertise:

Freebsd/Linux - Apache/Qmail/Mysql/Samba/blah blah blah
Windows95-2003 - Clusters, not a problem, IIS/SQL/Exchange 2003/LCS 2005/AD/You name it I've deployed it and supported it.

Cisco Pix/IOS - Self taught but I maintain all our routers and Pix's

Pretty handy with ASP/PHP/Vbscript/WSH/WMI

I worked for MS about 10 years ago and have been a system admin for 9 years. I'm here to help.

You too eh? I remember picking up a book on basic and creating many programs, football games, boxing, russian roulette - all based on random numbers. I remember the days of stripping down my programs because I ran out of memory (3.5k), remember begging the parents for an additional memory card so I can get it up to a whopping 5k. And I remember the tape drive recorder and all the beatings I took from my older brother because I accidentally saved my programs on his mix tape.

*Wipes tear* Ahhhh, memories :)

I've worked extra at an internet cafe in town for the last two and a half years. If there is a wrong way to do something on a windows computer one of my customer has probably already done it...

My first computer was a Sinclair spectrum 16 (I think it was 16) later upgraded to 48k. I got it when I was 6 I think. I loved to sit and program the thing. I'm currently attending an engineering program with computer science as a sub major. On monday the semester starts again with real-time control systems among other courses.

I've used Macs for over 15 years, so if there are any other Apple-heads out there, I'm glad to help where I can. I'm also a graphic artist by trade (and amateur musician on the side), so I can probably weigh in on photoshop/web design stuff, and basic audio recording.

And, since we're confessing, my first computer was the IBM PCjr my dad bought for my sister and I one Christmas. We were, however, required to learn how to type (and type properly) before he let us use it...

My first non-high-school job was in the Publications Department at college, and they had this new-fangled Mac Plus! God, those were awful, but seemed like the bee's knees for us design folks. That, and the original LaserWriter. Slow as dirt, but crispest lettering we'd ever seen. Ah, the old days.

Ya know us Sun admins are on Solaris 10 right now. =) Your wasting your time learning 8. Its a nice lil starter I suppose. Things have changed a crap load in 10 tho. I highly recommend 10 to anyone wanting to jump in and learn unix.

Good luck. If you need anything concerning Solaris. Let me know. Ive been using it the past 12 years now.

Rlmao Only have to use 8 until we finish replacing the Sun Blades we will be a complete Red Hat Linux shop with in the next 2 years or less we are down to less than 2% of our boxes being Sun Blades. So we are riding out 8 until that occurs and I think we have like 2 installs of 9 floating around
