Argument not to draft a QB

Say the root office had the discussion about what to do with Tony. Undoubtedly, he provides them the best opportunity to win now. With Brady signed until he is 42, and expected to perform at his typically high level, Tony's 36 is relatively young. Although Tony has had injuries, he has suffered nothing similar to what Brady has.

So, they tell themselves Tony can play for a while, and at a top 4-5 QB level. When you think about it, who manages an offense equal to or better? Brady, Rogers, Brees, and I can't think of anyone else, now that Peyton is retiring. So you have a franchise QB at the top of his game.

Bringing in a question mark, even if it is Wentz or Goff, and it is not like they are a sure thing, would not be the best short term use of such a bountiful pick. They would sit for at least three years behind Tony, and all that while, not only will it be necessary for the player to have patience, but the coaches and player personnel would have to show restraint as well.

Imagine opening the season 1-3 and having the #4 pick sitting on the bench! Imagine this board and the anti Romo crowd going insane to have the supposed next coming of Troy Aikman sitting the bench. This is Dallas, and all the talking heads would be stirring the pot. The sideshow would be unbearable.

So why not avoid it all and take a QB in the third or later? No pressure to replace Romo. The expectation of playing right away non existent. If we bomb this year, or if Romo goes down again, we can grab someone in the 2017 draft. But if Tony is Tony, and the offense clicks as it does with him at the helm, we could have a DE, or LB, or even a RT if Tunsil falls. Or maybe trade back and grab some of everything we need. It has worked for the Patriots.

We also eliminate the entire QB controversy. And who knows, that guy Riot might be there at number 4!

What exactly has Brady suffered from that is so much worse than what Romo has dealt with?

Yeah, you would think the front office would have thought of this before. Just go grab someone.

lol, posters still believing the Cowboys are contenders and all we need is a few more players to surround Tony with (offense.defense) to win a super bowl.

I'm a huge Romo fan and it's a shame that we could not surround Romo with the talent needed to at least be a consistent playoff team, but you're right. With Romo, we have what a 2-3 year window, maybe less, before his skills just fall off? Half way through 2014, Peyton Manning's skills literally dropped off the face of the earth and eventually it will happen to Romo. Some years, most years, there isn't a franchise QB worth taking or there is one, but you need the #1 pick and here we are, with a golden opportunity to give this team a completely wide open window, something we never gave Romo and so many here want to pass on these QBs.

Does any open-minded fan have any faith that Jerry, Stephen, the coaches , the FO or these scouts would know an elite QB prospect if one bit them in the rear end. In All honesty, I want a QB if there is a good one available , but I don't think this team is capable of drafting the right one or recognizing if there is a right one.

Then we are pretty much screwd until he dies

If that's the case, then it doesn't matter who we pick, may as well pick a punter at #4.

Not sure why everyone thinks the FO will find a great CB, LB or any other position, but can't find a QB

Is it? Who are the top of the draft guys? I don't think Watson, Kaaya, Kelly, Faulk or who ever have more pro potential than Goff, Wentz or even Lynch.

I bet you didn't even know who lynch or wentz was last year at this point. The draft hypes these guys up like no other. There's got to be top players. If lynch and wentz were so great like a luck why are they playing at small schools?
There are some good prospects next season and will be the season after that.

I said as much in another thread, but you said, the QB class next year was deep, indicating it was better or at least equal to this years. Try backing up your statement a bit.
