I thought I'd start a thread to give us a place to drop our throughts on various players, teams, and games through the preseason.

So here it is.

Last night (Aug 8) had some intertesting games and performances:

  • Surprisingly, of all people, Brandon Weeden looked very comfortable in Norv Turner's offense.10-13, 112 yards, and a TD. Not bad.

  • The upgraded Oline at Tennessee was paying dividends. It was pretty comical really; put Chris Johnson in for one series, 2nd a carry and a cutback through a hole and adios....58 yard TD. lol. That was enough for him for the day.

  • Shonn Green also gashed the Commanders front, and it was not just backups.

  • As we all already knew, Washington has a good backup in Kirk Cousins. He looked sharp.

  • The Bengals, Ravens, and Seahawks crushed the Falcons, Bucs, and Chargers respectively. But all three teams' starters trailed after the 1st quarter. That's preseason.

  • I'm not sure, but Mike Glennon could give Josh Freeman some competition before the year is over.

Norv has always been best suited as an OC, and not a HC. If Weeden can show that level of consistency in the regular season (I'm still not convinced), then the Browns may be able to make some noise. Richardson will have more holes to run through as well.

The Commanders essentially gave up two big plays against Johnson and Greene. Orakpo was the culprit on the first by abandoning his contain responsibility, and everyone on the right side was blocked out of the play on the Greene run. Poor tackling was prevalent throughout the entire game. Haslett needs to get these guys together.

I agree on Cousins, he was sharp. And if Pat White can play that way against at least second stringers and in the next two games, I'll want him to get the #3 spot over Grossman. The Skins started 3 rookies in the secondary. Philip Thomas hurt his foot and might be out for the season, we'll know today. Rambo got schooled by Chris Johnson, but Amerson looked very good in press man coverage.

I didn't get a chance to see the Bengals or Seahawks, but I heard their starters looked rusty. I did watch the Ravens starters, Flacco through a bad INT and their OL had some protection issues.

Flacco back to being Flacco.
But that awesome playoff run made hima rich man, inspite of an otherwise JAG career so far.
I do think he has improved every year.

I read that Cahnce Warmack got embarrassed a couiple of times by Washinton defedners in his debut.

Also, 11 players caught passes for the Rams. Tavon Austin was not one of them.
He dropped his only target. I'm sure he'll be fine. His ex-WVU teammate, Stedman Bailey, caught a couple fo balls though.

Nice start for Ezekial Ansah.
Very 1st series of his career he got an interception return for a touchdown. Pretty cool.

Giants looked stout on the DL. We were wise to draft a big Center in the first. I wish we had brought in Cullen Jenkins for depth. I thought he got a bad wrap in Philly.

The preseason is completely meaningless and I don't even care how such-and-such "looked" because that's meaningless too, but the only thing important is escaping the preseason without injuries, and it sure seems to me that a lot of teams are having trouble doing that.

The preseason is actually quite interesting for us fans of our team. It give us an opportunity to evaluate our both rookie and younger talent and make sure the veteran guys are still capable. I love it!

Not sure if anyone here has seen Cleveland play this preseason, but Norv is doing wonders for Brandon Weeden. They already have an good line. Now the Trent Richardson at RB and two good, young and athletic WRs (Gibson and Little) and a possible breakout TE (Cameron looks real good) the Browns may be semi respectable. The defense is already more than serviceable.

I think KC will be much better too. Carolina could even surprise.

Always fun to see teams progress, but you hope that our guys are one of them.

That Philly offense is fun to watch.
Of course, it's only preseason, but certainly fast.

The Lions have a Norwegian kicker competing with Akers so i've been following that pretty closely the main news story on the biggest news site here this morning was Rugland hitting a 33 yard field goal in preseason. Slow news day and a excitement around football that i have never seen here before

3 for 3 so far in preseason no one really believes he'll beat out Akers but as long as he doesn't start missing he'll probably get a shot somewhere else he's got kicks of 50 and 49 yards as well as the 33 yard kick last night

NFL is crazy, one of those teams you mentioned will be in the playoffs be sure. My prediction is 1 team that didn't make the playoffs last year will be in a Championship game, hopefully its the Cowboys.

You just knew he would, didn't you? It's probably what he does best, develop young QBs. He did it for a season in SF, with Alex Smith, too.

Yep, Norv is one of the greatest offensive minds in the NFL. He does his pedigree proud.

The Bills and EJ Manuel have been doing great as well. They will improve a lot from last year.

Man, Tom Brady was surgical on that opening drive tonight. Amendola looked absolutely great too.

I've watched Amendola quite a bit since he's been with the Rams, he's one heck of a WR, but he's always hurt. Don't be surprised if Amendola has a 100 catch, 1250 yard season, he just has to stay healthy. As for Brady, he was good as always.
