How about we debate HC options if/when Jason Garrett is fired?

Novel concept I know.
I'd be willing to bet that Jerruh and co. have been thinking about their options if JG doesn't improve things this year. Why shouldn't the fans?

I would definitely give him a call if I were GM of a team looking to replace a coach. Also, Stanford's coach. And Lovie Smith.

If I were the Cowboy's GM, I would be looking for an opportunity to 'be seen' with Briles. Maybe just a little handshake the reporters just happen to photograph or a little lunch together or something. I don't mind making Garrett a little uncomfortable and let him know just how short that leash is and how quickly it can be cut.

Hands off! The Horns have first shot. Plus we have more billionaires to pay his salary.

If and When Garrett is gone, how would Art Briles fit in as the HC?
With the national spotlight on him today, I was reading through his Wiki page, and noticed how he was turning around programs wherever he went as a HC. Now, I do understand its not NFL, but he sure looks like an interesting/exciting candidate for the job. I believe his contract with Baylor ends after the 2014 season. What do you all think??

Interesting question. I would prefer a guy that's had some type of experience in the NFL as either a coach or player. The NFL has become so complicated with the salary cap and other non-football specific issues.

Also, it would difficult for him to come in and minimize Jerry's influence on football operations. I think the combination of Garrett and Stephen Jones manipulate Jerry to minimize his actual influence on football issues. There are only 2 methods of a HC having success under Jerry.
1. Take over like Jimmy or Parcells.
2. Manipulate him. I believe Garrett has SOME success with this method. We have not seen any trades like the ones for Roy Williams or Joey Galloway or signings like T.O. and Pacman.

Wade and Campo couldn't do either. Gailey couldn't get buy in from players and people surrounding Jerry.

Have at it. But do we need a new thread everytime a coach with a pulse has a team performing well?

At what point is it just clutter?

To those of you ragging on the thread

1) it is a discussion forum
2) if you don't want to talk about it, then don't come in here and complain (if you don't have something nice to say, then say nothing as my momma used to say)
3) the OP didn't say we should bring Briles in to replace Garrett, he was looking at options IF and WHEN Garrett is gone
4) the negativity in some people astounds me sometimes....go for a walk, relax, play a video game when you are down in your basement (instead of ranting in here), your mom will make you a sammich or something, with a pickle slice if you ask her nice!

for those of you who wanna tell me what to do - bag it.

it's more annoying than oprah winfrey doing has been shows to come in and see people toss out coaches names like they actually matter in what will happen next for the cowboys. i'd LOVE it for the mods to make ONE thread everyone can post their ideas in and those of us who don't wanna see that **** a dozen times a day can ignore the starter of the thread and poof.

we're all monkey slappin happy.

Everyone has a right to an opinion, but these threads are indeed getting tiresome and haven't contributed much to the forum. The zone is for fans to talk about and debate news, games and players. But it has become a rage forum whether the cowboys win or lose.

I think Art Briles is a great coach who has a way with offense. But Jason Garrett is currently the head coach of a 5-4 Dallas Cowboys team and I think he can be a hell of a head coach, even if it takes five more years.

lol five more years?

Let's see, he's been here since 07', so in five years he would be here a total of 11 years. Granted, by that time he would only have been our head coach for eight years.......yeah eight years. Either way it has already been plenty of enough time even at this point for us to know what kind of coach he is and what he brings to the table. Can you fault fans for not being satisfied with some of the things that has been going on with this team since he got here?

In a league where teams seem to turnaround in less than a year or two, I think it is very appropriate to discuss and evaluate the job of our head coach. Someone who's offensive system has been installed here since 2007 and someone who has been the head coach for over three years.

It's the opinion of many that the overall discussion will eventually avert to this at some point anyway, the issue of a new head coach. And although Jason Garrett seems entrenched as our head coach now, many fans aren't content with that and for good reason in my opinion. Most message boards enable fans to express their opinions and thoughts about the team, in every aspect. If this subject is tiresome to some, simply don't click on the thread.

Excellent post!! People like to gripe about these post when the fact is if Garrett was getting the job done then there would be no threads like this. If the internet was in existence during Jimmy Johnson's tenure, how many anti Jimmy threads would there have been after three years? Jimmy had the team improving year after year until we reached the Superbowl. Garrett has the team stuck in neutral going .500 every year and so far we are on schedule to go .500 again. Until Garrett improves the team on more than just paper or he is fired (and I think he should be) there will be threads wanting to replace him with a coach that can make a difference. We have seen too many examples of coaches turning teams around in one year to be happy with Garrett and his annual .500 records.

Is this breaking news? The Cowboys fired Jason Garrett mid-season?

I'm not a huge fan of Garrett I think it's just tiresome seeing new page one threads on who the next coach should be when we're winning the division is all. Now if we go 8-8 or 9-7 and out of first round of playoffs ill jump all over the new coach speculation

At the rate we are going, we will only win the division because we suck the least out of the pitiful NFC LEast division(my how the mighty have fallen). We are not exactly kicking butt and taking names. I hope us winning the division with an 8 - 8 or even 9 - 7 record is not what Jerry calls success. There is no excuse for this team to win less than 10 games and at least make the second round of the playoffs.. This team has too much talent to hover at .500 so even if we win this pitiful division it should only be considered a success if we win at least 10 games and have some playoff success.

LOL at all the people complaining about the existence of this thread. If you don't like the thread idea, don't click on it. "Briles for the HC job?" isn't exactly subtle, it's like you don't know what you're getting yourself into when you click it.
