DMN reports big pay raise and contract extension keeping Briles at Baylor for the remainder of his career.

Sorry trolls and doubters, Baylor is his destination of choice, he won't be poached.

Numbers aren't public as Baylor's private school status permits them the privilege of not disclosing salaries and bonus incentives.

Now has been reported a 20 million buyout it the magic number to lure him from the Bears, and no one is going to spend that just for the right to negotiate a contract with him.

Speculation is his salary will be north of 4 million per year, up from the present 3.5 million ( that isn't officially acknowledged by Baylor) and loaded with incentives that could make the annual payday for Art Briles on par if not north of Bob Stoops and Mack Brown.

UPDATE:

It has been leaked to Sic Em Sports, a Baylor insider group, that Briles will be paid in the neighborhood of $4.5 million per year, eclipsing Bob Stoops at the moment. All Baylor assistant coaches are due significant raises as well, keeping the staff intact. Especially OC Phil Montgomery and DC Phil Bennett.

And there was much rejoicing in Waco:

Wow! Is that 20 mil buyout for real?

Props to Baylor for getting that done and to him for wanting to stay. But now how are the Cowboys supposed to get him? :(

There's no way on God's green earth the buyout is $20 million. I've seen reported that it is $5 million, far more likely.

This assures Briles will be at Baylor at least next year, but all it really does it add three years and more money to the extension he agreed to last year. College coaching contracts are worth the paper they're written on, as we've seen with coaches who dart like a thief in the night when a better job comes calling. All this really means to me is that Briles will leave Baylor for the NFL, not another college job.

Why does this sound so familiar?

http://www.chron.com/sports/college-football/article/UH-gives-Briles-2-year-extension-1881636.php

January 24, 2006
"I appreciate the confidence and trust that Mr. Maggard and the athletics department at the University of Houston have in me, our coaches and our players," Briles said. "I'm excited about the direction of our program and the opportunity to stay committed to the University of Houston."

Briles, who took over the program in December of 2002, initially signed a five-year contract, which was then extended one year after he took UH to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. And after leading the Cougars to the Fort Worth Bowl this season, Briles was given two more years, which will run his contract through the 2010 season.

"I'm a Texas guy who's living in a big Texas city, so I'm happy," said Briles, who is heading into his fourth season as Cougars' coach and has a career record of 16-20. "This is where I want to be."

Maybe it really is different this time. Maybe AB truly is happy in Waco and wants to finish his coaching career there. I guess we'll see.

Good for Baylor.

But in reality this means nothing except he was given a pay raise.
If UT or USC want Briles and he wants them a buyout is pointless except to offer Baylor some additional cash to throw at a replacement.

Both schools could have boosters cover 20m though the buyout is actually 5 according to local radio.

Given Briles' age and contract this probably is a lifetime deal and good for him and Baylor.

I think Baylor was more worried about Oregon and not UT or USC. There has been loose talk that Oregon might be interested in him but who can really say for sure.

Good for Briles. I do think Baylor is the best fit for him. Congrats Green Bears!

Baylor will never publicly disclose his contract but reliable leaks say his incentives max out around 6 million annually.

Who would've thunk a Baylor coach would have a higher paygrade than bob stoops

It's significant my friend, 20 million is likely true, the day before approving a new contract for Coach Art Briles the Baylor Board of Regents also gave a new contract to Baylor University President Ken Starr and appointed him the additional title of Chancelor, the duty thereof to be a fundraising beast.

This buyout is putting the green IN God's Earth.

No, the $20m buyout is not true and has not been reported by anyone with even the slightest bit of reputability. It was a rumor that started by a random Twitter account with only two tweets.

Sorry, but that is every bit as reputable a claim as what you are refuting. The numbers are not public, but insider leaks suggest 20m, and they are reputable.

A twitter account that has only tweeted twice is a "reputable insider" ?? Gotcha. Believe whatever helps you sleep better at night.

Nice strawman, the subtext of your posts is that you are in denial that one of the best coaches in football has turned Baylor into one of the best teams in the game, and they have ensured he will be at Baylor and no where else.

There is no subtext in that.

YOU yourself would not believe a twitter account that only has two posts if it had something of the same nature for another school and another coach.

I can guarantee you that if someone came in here with a twitter posting from a twitter account that had 2 tweets that said Art Briles was going to be the next coach at UT (prior to this contract extension) you would not believe it either or at best question the source.

We get it...You love baylor, you bleed baylor, you are happy for baylor.

However just because someone questions a tweet from an account that has two tweets total it does not mean they are out to discredit you, baylor or have some kind of sinister motive.

Geez, start some decaf coffee and chill out anytime someone does not worship at the alter that is baylor.

um no, I never sited a tweet or granted it as a source or authority, that's called a strawman, the laziest of fallacies. So correcting the usage of it I'd hardly out of line.
