Professional scouts from 16 NFL teams gathered on South Carolina State University's campus Tuesday for a Pro Timing Camp for seniors from colleges around the state.
In addition to athletes from S.C. State, there were also seniors from Benedict, Coastal Carolina, and Charleston Southern. The scouts timed the perspective NFL hopefuls in speed, tested them on agility and strength and conducted some individual passing and receiving drills with quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs. Also, the Wonderlic IQ test was administered to the prospective pro players. This test measures aptitude, personality, productivity reliability and other skills.
Teams represented were the San Diego Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, NY Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans.
Ten players participated from SCSU (RB DeShawn Baker, DB TJ Stanley, WR Chris Burgess, LB Patrick Reed, OL Clyde Reed, DL Eric Turner, OL LaQuinton King, DL Shanode Williams and DL Joe Dick and LB Thomas Cobbs from the 2005 team); three from Coastal Carolina ( QB Tyler Thigpen, DB Quinton Teal, RB Aundrus Perkins); QB Collin Drafts from Charleston Southern; Newberry WR Tymere Zimmerman; and LBs Deon Lanier and Titus Curry of Benedict.
