Former Kicker Jose Cortez Becoming a Cop
Posted Jun 24th 2007 7:14AM by Michael David Smith
Former 49ers and Cowboys (and XFL) kicker Jose Cortez hasn't been able to catch on with an NFL team, even for a training camp tryout, and he's currently employed as a dockworker.
But he's about to get a new job as an Oregon State trooper. A native of El Salvador, Cortez is a naturalized U.S. citizen who says he hopes the way he resisted street gangs and went to college will make him a good role model to other Latino youth in Oregon.
Sports by Brooks has a good take on this news:
"Cortez's resume includes a stint in the XFL, where he lead the league in scoring and was named championship game MVP. So, he knows how to deal with violent psychopaths."
However, if you're driving along the highway in Oregon and he pulls you over, you might want to take the opposite approach. Try saying, "Hey, I loved the XFL." It might get you out of a ticket.
