Months before the Chicago Bears clinched their first trip to the Super Bowl in 21 years, safety Chris Harris stared into a video camera and promised to take fan Bryan Lange with him to Miami if the team made it to the big game.

The apparent promise -- made during a 40-second interview with a public access television show last June -- might have seemed like a longshot at the time.

But now that the Bears are in, thanks in part to Harris' big plays last Sunday, Lange is trying to hold Harris to his words.

Video: Bryan Lange's interview with Chris Harris

Lange, a construction worker from Crystal Lake and a Bears season ticket holder, has set up camp on the road to Halas Hall this week with a sign saying, "Chris Harris You Promised.''

He also posted a clip of the interview he filmed at a charity event at www.psychobabble tv.com/chrisharrispromised.

In it, Harris tells Lange -- who goes by the name Chong on a show called Psycho Babble -- that his goal is to make it to the Super Bowl.

Says Lange: "If you guys make it to the Super Bowl, I'll sell my Harley to go.''
Harris replies, "You won't have to sell it. I will give you tickets.''

Lange replies, "I'm going to hold you to it. I've got you on tape.''

Harris, looking at the camera, then agrees: "It's on tape. If we win, he's going.''

Lange concludes the interview by saying, "Chong is going to the Super Bowl with the Bears on Chris Harris' dollar.''

After two days in the cold, Lange, 33, says Harris told him Wednesday that he couldn't help him.

In a phone interview, Harris' agent, Albert Elias, said he was unaware of Harris' promise but called Lange's appeal "a very unreasonable request considering Chris has over 40 family members trying to get tickets and he's only offered 15.''

Thats messed up if he doesnt give him a ticket.

The fan had faith ahead of time and Harris not giving him a ticket shows he didnt even have faith in his own team to even get to the Superbowl if he wasnt serious about doing it.

Give him the ticket man!

Let him chill with your family.

Ah yes.

Lets not hold a man to his word.

I guess that is what this country has become. Make promise after promise with no intention of keeping them and get off without so much as a whimper coming from anyone.

And of course you have someone actually putting down the guy that was lied to instead of calling the guy that lied what he is.

A liar.

Is Harris a liar? YES.

Is this construction worker camping out at the Bears facility begging him to keep his promise a pathetic loser? YES.

It's a lose/lose situation.

The guy offered to sell his Harley to go the Super Bowl and the player came out and offered, unsolicited, to get him a ticket.

Now it is this guy's fault that he was offered something, unsolicited, and the player reneged?

I love the statement from the agent:

"a very unreasonable request considering Chris has over 40 family members trying to get tickets and he's only offered 15.''

It wasn't a request, idiot. It was an offer from your brain dead client.....who apparently hired a brain dead agent.

Technicalities gentlemen. Harris promised "Chong", not the idiot that plays him. The guy has no case. Should Harris give up a ticket to a "character" on a public access show, or give it to one of his family or friends. Sorry, but the Public Access "character" is gonna get jobbed.

Harris has never been to the Super Bowl before...... maybe he didn't realize how limited the tickets are.

This contruction worker has to suck it up and realize he's living in the real world and quit acting like a child. If I was that guy's wife I'd change the locks on the door while he was camping out begging for tickets.

Not that a guy with that little self-respect even HAS a wife.

The whole thing was said in jest. Is said construction working selling his harley to go? Would he have sold it even if Harris didn't offer, I think not. I don't think either party was serious. There is no way I would give some dude a ticket over my family.

If all else fails, buy the guy a ticket for $3000. Much easier than having to deal with the (albeit minute) negative publicity.

Wow, my friend! You seem quite emotional about all this!!!

Also, what is wrong with being blue-collared!!!!! The man may be an 4r5e, I don't know - but seems a little condescending to call him out over that.

I don't know why the player would have made that promise....how stupid. Still he's under no obligation to do anything. The guy should know it's not a reasonable thing to expect.

I guess keeping your word is unreasonable these days.
