1. Stick a fork in the 2006 Washington Commanders. They are done after losing 25-22 at home to the winless Tennessee Titans. And they inexplicably threw away a 14-3 lead. TO THE TITANS!
While I thought this expensive mess would fail on offense (why sign and pay big money to Brandon Lloyd and give up two draft picks in the process when you already signed Antwaan Randle El?) and I never trusted Marc Brunell to lead this team to the playoffs (Jason Campbell after the Week 7 loss to Indy and Week 8 bye week, please), I thought the defense would be good. It hasn't been at all.
Freshly minted defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been reluctant to blitz like he did last year.
And don't take my word for it.
As Titans center Kevin Mawae told me on Monday: "I would say they blitzed us less than half of what we prepared for. That really surprised me. But we'll take it. Vince (Young) had all day to throw and played his best and most comfortable game of the season."
I couldn't believe Williams didn't put the heat on a young quarterback.
And remember how good the Washington run defense played last year en route to the playoffs?
Let's call it a resurrection for Travis Henry, plowing his way to 178 rushing yards, and a needed win for Jeff Fisher, one of the sport's elite coaches.
And let's call it a total letdown for one expensive mess in D.C.
