As long as Jones runs things, Dallas will fall short

AP-There's nothing worse in team sports than a fractured locker room. It's like having a sports car with a busted engine. It might look nice and fast from the outside but in reality it's nothing more than a useless pile of parts that will never run.

That's what the Dallas Cowboys have been since Terrell Owens arrived three years ago. To be fair, the Cowboys were bad before he arrived (they haven't won a playoff game 13 years) but Owens' signing, along with others such as Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson were like a fresh coat of paint and a new set of tires on a lemon that needed to be overhauled, not touched up.

As successful as Jerry Jones has been as a businessman, it's amazing how enamored he is of "star players" who have more style than substance and more suspensions than accolades. He's like a groupie who wants to be around as many rock stars as possible.

He's the original Daniel Snyder, assembling fantasy football teams and expecting them to work because, well, they would in his fantasy world. That's not how it works in the NFL and as long as Jones is making personnel decisions his team will be in a constant state of rebuilding.

That doesn't mean Jones is a bad owner. In fact, he's one of the best owners in sports, willing to spend endless amounts in order to improve his team. That, however, doesn't make him a good general manager. If they weren't the same person, it's safe to say Jones (the owner) would have fired Jones (the general manager) a long time ago.

Jones should be smart enough to stick to what he does best and put others in position to help him and his team succeed. When he wanted to build a new billion-dollar stadium, he sought the best architects, engineers and contractors to make his dream a reality. It didn't mean he was any less involved because he didn't draw up the blue prints himself or lay the foundation with his own hands. He should understand the same would be true if he sought the best general manager and player personnel director to rebuild the Cowboys.

While Jones was basically forced to part ways with Pacman and will likely do the same with Tank, I would be surprised if he cut ties with Owens, who is probably the biggest cancer in the Cowboys' locker room. While some in the organization, including his son Stephen, the current director of player personnel, reportedly want Jones to release Owens and move on, I simply can't see Jones letting go of a big-name player. Even when they are dividing his locker room and on the downside of their careers, Jones, like a star-struck fan who can't let go of the past, insists on having marquee players on his team.

It may be T.O. now, it may have been Pacman and Tank before, but as long as Jones is in charge of player personnel, it will never end. He will always swoop up the next baggage-laden big-name player, believing that simply putting that blue star on his helmet will fix everything. As we've found out for the past 13 years, he will always be wrong.

Brought to you by the Jerry Jones for albatross of the year society. Our motto is a new thread every day saying the same thing, but deserving a new thread because it is our idea.

well since the last bunch of glory years it's true. hopefully the op is wrong or Jerry changes his ways. I think Jerry means well but doesn't see the big picture of what he's doing. only time will tell.

I'd rather have the truth come out than 13 more years of mediocrity with Jerry continuing his best Al Davis impersonation.

Keep the threads, billboards, websites and all else coming people. The silence route and ignoring it hasn't helped. I like the new approach.

I will point out the Yankees of the late 70's. Want to talk about a fractured locker room? BUT they STILL won CHAMPIONSHIPS.

These Jerry Jones must go haters are probably the people in the most miserable position possible.

I'm not sure if you realize this or not but Jerry Jones is not going anywhere for many many years. And when he does his son will take over.

So my advise for you.... get over it or find a new team to cheer for who has an owner more likable to you.

The eagles bandwagon still has some room on it.
They have a real tract record of success. 0 superbowls in say forever.
Maybe the Vikings will take you on. Or the new hot team the cardinals.

Stop crying over something that never will change until Jerry passes on to other side....and if thats your wish then you are sick.

I agree.

I am soooooooooo glad that we won that 5th SB trophy... but lets be realistic. We got lucky. Larry Brown - thank you!!!

I wonder if Jerry does things any different if he doesnt win SB without Jimmy?

Probably not... just a thought though....

I believe there is some truth to this article.

Also, I find the whole "What is our record when Terrell Owens gets 100 yards" question funny.

I wonder what our record is when Jason Witten gets 100 yards or when Mariion Barber gets 100 yards.

I think people have foolishly bought into Terrell Owens' own hype by thinking it is all about Terrell Owens and the sad part is I think the Coaches have that mindset as well in order to pacify the guy.

You call it "pacify"..... I call it being smart and getting the ball to the playmaker that is trying to help us win.

This post was brought to you by a unbiased thought.

Its not smart "if" it is hurting the offense overall.

Furthermore, this isn't Philadelphia, Terell Owens is not the only playmaker.

As a matter of fact, I bet a case could be made that Tony Romo, Felix Jones, Jason Witten, Marion Barber, Roy Williams and a few of our Offensive Lineman could start for other teams.

The smart thing is to focus on Terrell Owens some of the time but not all of the time.

We will never agree on this and that is all well and good. ;)

I dont think he hurts the offense by wanting to help us win. If our coaches cant draw up the right plays and create mismatches then its on them.

Agreed on this part - focus on TO some of the time(when we create mismatches or when they present themselves)... but not all of the time.

Its funny... I only hear fans and some mediots talk of "forcing the ball" to Owens or "focusing too much" on Owens.

I dont think that is the case at all.

Since 3 Superbowls in 4 years, its true. I tell ya, its just too true.

I find that part funny. The Dallas dynasty was on Jerry's watch and at a time where he was probably more of a meddling twerp than he is now.
