I just had the rudest DoorDash delivery idiot that I’ve ever had. I gave him my pin seven times and he couldn’t understand it and he refused to give me my Thanksgiving Dinner and actually pulled it away when I reached for it.
The manager at my location, heard the entire exchange and looked at his phone, and he had entered it wrong every single time.
I was that close to getting my badge and holding him for theft while I called the local PD.

He was from some African or Caribbean nation and had no knowledge of English had no right to be working for the company which proves they don’t screen their Dashers nor do they interview them.

Horrible company and awful business model. Please use one of the many other delivery services. This is not the first time their app has routed my order to a restaurant much further away than the one I ordered from and it’s happened to other people too on the DoorDash complaint forums.

Fortunately support gave me a full refund for the cold food I received and the poor treatment I was given by this imbecile plus an additional credit for what I went through.

I will be deleting my credit card and then deleting the app from my phone as soon as I use the credit on my next order.

There’s too much other competition and delivery services to put up with the sort of rubbish and bollocks.

I think it’s ridiculous people get a private car for their burrito. Once the VC money dries up, all of these delivery apps go to zero. They can’t do it for a reasonable price and make money.

Price has never been my complaint for the convenience. I just don’t appreciate mean people who have no business working in customer service.

Sorry for your experience, being in the restaurant business myself cannot stand doordash. Regardless of what they Hawk they are not good for local business. Just sharks. And some of the drivers I've seen there is no way I would want them handling my dinner

First it sucks that you got to use the service for Thanksgiving dinner and then on top of it you have a terrible exp with it.

Sorry bout that guy.

I have never used them, but I have used other delivery services and there is often a language barrier.

I am sure that has a lot to do with it being something easy for non-English-as-primary-language people to do to earn money.

While there is no question the driver was at fault, I think the company is more to blame because they know situations like yours happens quite often so they should have a fallback process (or multiple fallback processes) in order to confirm the delivery.

For example, there should be something you could do with the app yourself to confirm the order and not rely on the driver at all. At the very least, the app should be able to do a proximity check between the delivery driver's phone running the app and your phone running the app.

That's very true about VC companies funding, or rather subsidizing, services like that.

My guess is they are hoping to do it long enough that a large number of people use and rely on them until they reach a point where they can pass on the costs to the service provider in some way because by that point, those companies will be too dependent on their customers to say no.

That will of course be followed by increases in delivery fees to their customers to offset it paired with "subscribe and get unlimited deliveries every month" offerings.

Great post reality.
There actually already is. The driver can see your exact location
So they already know they’re at the right place, which is why using a pin code is redundant and unnecessary. Basically it’s just a way for the driver to be able to see how much you tipped and they push tips at the time of the order not after. Drivers also can deny orders if they don’t see a tip or they don’t think it’s big enough.Lolol
Who in their right mind would tip before the service just like no one tips in a restaurant until after they’ve eaten and got the check. In NZ there is no tipping because they get paid a livable wage even in a service industry.
Door dash is a horrible system and a horrible company. Hopefully they’ll soon go out of business when faced with their better competitors.
In New Zealand, you can’t even get a work visa without proving your command of English both spoken and understood. You also have to pass a health exam to prove they’re not going to be a burden on the New Zealand health system and you have to prove that you have a significant amount of money in the bank to prove your ability to sustain yourself while you’re there. It can also take up to a year for your application to be approved or denied.
their immigration policies are very restricted limited and very tough. They don’t just let anybody in to work because it takes work away from Kiwi’s.
On a tourist visa you cannot work on one of those is for only 90 days at a time if you try working on a tourist visa you’ll be deported immediately.
The US could take a lesson from NZ on immigration.

I agree with Reality. They should set it up so that you can easily identify yourself via the app. I've quit using those services altogether because it really adds up quick. Ordering lunch for one person can easily add up to 40 bucks or more. Do that just three times and that's already 120 bucks you've blown. I haven't had the problems of the rude treatment that the OP describes, but I have had annoyances like their forgetting part of the order such as the drink. For all these reasons, I've gone back to just calling for takeout and then going to pick it up. Sometimes, if I can, I'll find a restaurant that still does their own deliveries.

I did have a misunderstanding with a Lyft driver one time. I was annoyed with Android for requiring a Google account with my name. At the time I first got an Android, I had no Google account, so I made one up with a stupid-sounding name. I won't reveal that name here in case someone (a non CZ person) wanted to doxx me, but it's a stupid name something like Marty Q. McGangenflop. So I'm getting in from a trip at my local airport and I put in an order for a Lyft. The driver shows up and asks in a heavy accent, "Are you Marty." I'm like, "No, my name is [real first name]." In a heavy African accent, he says, "You are ze wrong one. I'm here to pick up Marty Q. McGangenflop." Then I realized that Lyft's system simply inherits the name from your Google account, so I explained what was going on. He didn't understand me. However, out of sheer dumb luck, he was from one of the African countries where they speak French, which is a language I actually speak. So I switched to French and explained it, showing him how my Google account lists me as that stupid name. That worked. I haven't had this trouble with Uber.

Last time I had a pizza delivered the driver looked like a spoon goon meth junky. I was afraid to eat the pizza.

I don't use the service very often, but the couple of times I have, I really appreciate the restaurants (even some pizza places) that put a quality control sticker over the food containers.

The ones that really bother me are the outsourced 1-800 numbers.

Getting someone who speaks like the Simpsons Apu feels like a luxury compared to some of them.

You think your pin is bad, trying reading credit card numbers.

God help you too if it's some type of crazy problem, and not just a normal customer service issue. Good luck explaining to the guy in Pakistan who just started English last year.

Most delivery services are heavy on hires that don't speak much English. I presume that's why they apply. No interview, just a background check. I used to rely on Lyft for my airport pickups, and it was rare I had a driver who spoke English.

I use Lyft pretty exclusively to except in New Zealand when they only use Uber - in New Zealand they are required to speak and understand English fluently or they can’t get a work visa.
unfortunately even though the ones here don’t speak English, most speak Spanish and I can speak Spanish so it tends to work, but it’s still a bit frustrating that they don’t speak English at all

The thought of my meal in the hands of a third party is a non-starter. I'm fine with ordering and picking it up myself.
That's what I'm doing. It's already way more expensive to get takeout than to make something yourself. Add the app fees and tips on top of that and it gets really expensive. Plus, some restaurants have higher prices for the same menu items if ordered via an app, so you really get slammed. If I were some kind of zillionaire, I probably wouldn't mind, but I'm not. I'm a normal person on a normal budget.

I used to use food delivery services a lot when I was working from home. I never had an issue with any delivery service. My instructions were "leave it on the chair by the front door." They have all followed that basic instruction, so I had no issues there. Bags are always sealed so I don't worry about the driver messing with my stuff. The annoying part is when DoorDash or a restaurant rebrands itself to hide who they really are. A place called the "Burger Den" is actually a hamburger from Denny's and a restaurant calling themselves "Catfish Kitchen" is actually a Captain D's. I thought I was helping a local place and not a chain.

Those are called ghost kitchens. Not a fan

Tried to order in last night…epic fail. Story time:

Attempt #1 :Wife and I decided yesterday was a perfect lazy Saturday at home. We made a pact: no leaving the house. For dinner, we wanted something different, so we decided to order Red Robin. I start the order online. I click delivery and know I put our address in correctly. Order goes through…until my wife notices it put in the wrong address. I have no idea why or where it pulled that address from. So, we call and explain, and end up canceling the order altogether.

Attempt #2: This time, I triple-check our address. Everything looks good, and I submit the order at 6:04. Later, we get a text saying delivery will be at 7:20. Cool. Fast forward the evening....my wife is messing around in the house, I’m deep into a video game, and she comes in and casually mentions it’s taking a while. I look at the clock: 7:30. Yep, she’s right. I check the tracker, and the delivery time keeps getting pushed back. Fine, it's Saturday night and maybe Red Robin’s busy, whatever, I try to have patience. Ok, it finally hits 8:00. As I’m just about to call them, the tracker shows the driver is on the way to pick up our food. Finally! Now I just hope our food hasn’t been sitting there for an hour waiting to be picked up. I look again and it says the driver is at the restaurant picking up the order. Great, I am starving. Suddenly my phone rings. It’s DoorDash, and the person on the other line has insanely broken English. I’m struggling to understand them. Something about the order and confirming the delivery. I say, “Yes, I ordered this dinner, I confirm,” wondering why this even matters. I've never had them call before. Then they say something about “thanks for confirming” and I hear them mention something about a cancellation. Wait, what? I try to clarify: “Hey, wait, what’s this call about” Click. They just straight-up hung up on me. Sitting there very confused, suddenly my phone alerts me and see a text: delivery canceled. Are you kidding me???

Attempt #3: We finally just ordered from a different Red Robin, and my wife drove to pick it up while I called to make sure we got a full refund for the other mess (which we did). So much for not leaving the house today.
Two hours of my life wasted, but at least dinner was finally salvaged. After all the chaos with DoorDash, I immediately thought of this thread.

.....and yes.....I really wanted Red Robin.

I recommend spending 10 minutes to go pick up the food yourself. It’s typically not a big deal.

Saves money and prevents most potential issues.

I had horrible experiences with an app named GoPuff.

First time they delivered into the wrong complex and after calling support they refused to give me my money back and told me to call my bank.

Then a year later it was integrated into Uber Eats and it was around 11:00 PM and the only option to get some food, same happened and Uber also didn’t care about my order.

Since then I stopped ordering food at night from Uber Eats or any app. The delivery people do not speak proper English and they get very aggressive if you call them or you try to give the address again.
