I have seen his name brought up several times as a possible target in free agency.

I must admit I have not seen him play much, since I mostly follow the NFC. I certainly will be watching him through the playoffs.

What I do know: he looks pretty stupid on the Brady commercial.

Seriously though, he seems a bit under sized. He actually is no bigger then Al Johnson and he plays center.

I know he was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers (2001), Ashworth was signed and released by Patriots to their practice squad in 2001. Was signed to the active roster in 2002.

His Scouting Report:

Scouting Report: Tom Ashworth has made significant strides in his game over the past two seasons. Once known primarily as just a good athlete, Ashworth has become a solid offensive tackle at the professional level. Not a dominating blocker, he has the ability to shutdown top-tier defensive ends due to his preparation, work ethic, and positioning. Comes out of his stance well, playing with leverage, uses his hands and arms well. Has experience on both right and left side. Ashworth has the tools to become a solid starting tackle in the league.

I know we have guys on the board who follow the Patriots closely, is this a guy worth even considering?

He is young and proably not too expensive, but with all the good looking tackles in the draft should we include or cross him off the list as possibilities?

I believe he's been starting at right tackle for at least 3 years now. He might be just a product of their system and may play poorly here, but I would sign him anyway. You never know.

All of their OL that actually see the field go 6-4/6-6 305-310.

They tend to stay away from the fat ones who can't move their feet.

I really believe Ashworth is a product of the system. My older brother asked me if I had heard anything from Andruzzi this year. I hadn't and can see why he doesn't think Ashwoth will be a good pickup. Sometimes players play better as a team than as individuals.

He's a good player -- not starting right now though. back problems in the past. the Pats "system" is a good match for ours - Ashworth would be a good pick up -- not the answer to all our problems but a solid player.

how often do you hear about guards on other teams otherwise?

Andruzzi was a fairly big Guard, think he goes about 320. I know he started 13 or 14 games for (I know, I know the Browns) but my friend says he played fairly well.

That is why I have some interest in finding about Ashworth, through the playoffs. He certainly is young and would be affordable.

But when you have a QB like Brady who can move around it is hard to always tell how good the tackle play is versus a mobile QB.

You hear about them if they are good. I've heard about Huthinson, Wahle, Chris Snee, etc... Anruzzi signed a contract that rewards a pro bowl player, obviuosly he didn't play to that level this year.

I want Ashworth on this team, a talented, young veteran to battle Pettiti for the RT job next year
