At Least We Are Not The Falcons

I'd rather make it and lose than lose in the Divisional Round.

Yes, losing the Super Bowl in this fashion would be gutwrenching, but the euphoria of winning the NFC title game would make up for a lot of that hurt.

Losing to Green Bay at home with the #1 seed was bad enough. Losing the SB after leading by 25 would be inconsolable. I rather not even make the playoffs. Sorry folks, there are no moral victories for the Falcons in this.....

They got to the SB and we didn't come close so it's pointless taking shots at the Falcons when they gave themselves at least a chance to win a championship by getting to the dance. Who the hell wants to be us, a team that went 13-3, then proceeded to go one and done at HOME in the playoffs for the second time in 10 years?

I think the point of thread is about being sympathetic to the Falcon fans, giving up the largest comeback of all time in the SB has to be gut wrenching for them.

The Cowboys losing in the divisional round was not really gut wrenching for Cowboy fans because we all are used to losing at this point. The last time we made it past the divisional round of the playoffs was 1995 so we are all used to losing, even when we are the first seed. So losing to Green Bay was par for the course and most fans were over it almost immediately.

I highly doubt Falcon fans are already over this, this kind of thing you remember for years.

That wasn't an option. Your option was to NOT get there OR get there & LOSE like the Falcons did. You wouldn't be taking "Chances". The outcome is already given.

If the out come is already GIVEN, then why play the game?

Dan Quinn now owns 2 horrible SB losses to NE.......one with SEA and now this one......OUCH

Kind of takes the shine off Kyle Shanahan

Yeah, that occurred to me last night in the smoking aftermath. Dude coached his *** off and deserved to win when he was the DC in Seattle. That was on the OC (Bevell?) for not running it in from 1 yard. Last night was on Shanahan and him. On that 3rd and 1 I would have overruled him on the headset and said: 'RUN it'. Saban, Belicheat and other great coaches do that from time to time. Some younger Coordinators need to be reeled in from getting too cute. That play will haunt them for many years.

Secondly, Falcons fans are saying today, after J.Jones' great catch on the sideline it was 1st and 10 at the N.E. 25 yard line: run it three times and kick the GD FIELD GOAL!!!!! Ahhhhhh Shanny.......similar to your Daddy: gotta prove your the smartest guy in the stadium. Brutal.

You run the risk of losing if you reach the SB. You run the risk of having to live with blowing a lead or having a player drop a TD pass in the endzone and having it haunt you for decades. Losing in the divisional round isn't as bad as losing a SB or blowing a big lead in the process but you have no chance of a championship unless you get to the SB. The Falcon fans will never get over what happened yesterday it will haunt them and the franchise forever. The Cowboys lost SB's that still haunt many of us who witnessed those games. You never get over a SB loss regardless how you lose it.

Really felt bad for them. The play calling and clock mismanagement was right out of the Garett handbook in the last 1.5 quarters. They completely gave that game away.

Like 12 brutal things had to happed for ATL to lose and they all did

Punting after getting onside kick at NE 40 was ugly
The sack and fumble with 8 minutes left leading 28-12 was bad
Sack after 1st and 10 at 22 leading 28-20 with 4 minutes was heartbreaking
Holding when they got back in FG range was just evil
Edelman catch was spooky

Meanwhile Falcons are saying atleast we made it to the Super Bowl and arent the Cowboys.... Its never easy to lose regardless and we're crazy to say we rather lose in the divisional round than the Super Bowl....

That's what I was thinking when I saw this question.

You can't compare our loss and theirs. Some people won't admit it but the way we were dancing around who we'd play.. Or if this guy or that guy should play the final game was writing on the wall. We knew our outcome was possible.

Atlanta fans had 2 weeks to convince themselves they were going to shock the world. Then.. They come out in the first half and do just that convincingly and get a lead so large you start to count down.

Then they get their souls snatched in little less than 10 minutes without putting up a fight. That is as bad as a loss as any fan could take. Once you drink the kool aid the loss is way worse. Screw a morale "we glad we got here" mentality.

Denial is powerful....I would rather believe we could've beat NE......you never get over a loss like that

It is the one time I prefer not getting there....the Ice Bowl, the Colts SB, Jackie Smith, the Catch, spotting SF 21 in 1994 all still sting

I am also a NYYankee fan and I will never get over being 3-0 to BOS in 2004....even with Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone and the Curse of the Bambino

For the Falcon fans.. I feel the hurt. Regarding the team...well, they blew it...no sympathy. They should have won but found a way to lose. 28-3 in the second half of the SB....come on...massive defensive collapse.

Yep. The "Catch" still hurts to watch...and they play it every playoff year!! Jackie Smith....still hurts. Those Packer loses were no fun either Brother.
