I agree with all of the posts after the first one. JJ is a player that needs to build momentum. I've noticed he doesnt come out in a game and rack up numbers. Even his first game last year got started slow. He'll be 100% for sure next week, and the beauty of our situation is that when one guys isnt running that good, the other guy can. neither is greater! They are both very good running backs!

What?

JJ went tonight. What's the difference? Why not start him over Barber?

You saying JJ couldnt go and thats whyBarber started? You need to go back and re-watch the last 2 games Barber has the opp to start.

Barber had one or two nice runs all night...AND he had a horrendous fumble which luckily we recovered with the game on the line

I seriously doubt he starts another game unless JJ just cant go

Neither of them did great but Barber provided the few positive rushing plays we had. Sure, he needs to learn to take care of the ball better, but I said that a long time ago and so did Parcells. I'm not writing off JJ yet, but he sure looked rusty today. Every play, he ran directly into the teeth of the Eagles defense. I was wincing near the end, I know he had to be.

I'm happy to say Barber is our man, atleast from this point on.

I like the guy and all, but Barber is probably pined after that fumble, and deservedly so

What Exactly Looked Bright That Barber Did?

BArber runs with emotion.....Till the last step.

God it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see the fire in BArbers eyes.

Take away that 26 yard run and Barber had 12 carries for 20 yards. Not to mention that fumble. Jones had 8 carries for 16 yards. Coming to any sort of conclusion on who is better based on tonights game is premature, IMO. Jones has been out for how many weeks? I don't care who is better. I'm rooting for them both.

Hey, I was just saying to myself during the game that MB3, will be the main man and Jones and TT, will be the change up guys.

Barber just runs harder and he has more thump than the other two. He seems the more polished of all three. I agree with you that Julius goes down way to easy, but he is not a really a heavy duty guy. That is why Parcells wanted help so that he would not wear his body out with 25 and 30 carries. Yes he can do it like he did last season, but he cannot do it over a whole season, his body is not built for that.
Barber is thicker and a natural over 200 lb back, whereas Jones built his body up with muscle to get to that 200 lb and over weight.

Example, Jones is bigger than Emmitt was in the upper body, but his legs is way smaller than Emmitt's are, he looks more like a scat back.

That is why Parcells wants Jones to become adept at receiving, he sees him as a Westbrook type and that is how he wants to eventually use him.

Obviously Parcells didn't want to throw JJ to the lions right off the bat, that's probably why Barber started. If you think just because Barber had 2 pretty good games, he's automatically the starter over our injured stud, than I'm glad as hell you're not our coach.

Julius looked horrible tonight. I hope it's just a slump. Barber was the only bright spot we had in the running game.
was there a brightspot in the running game tonite? I've seen enough of Barber. Bring JJ back. If Barber had not landed on that ball, yall would be singing a different tune.

Jones has played 14 career games. In those games, he has had three monster performances: 150 yards, 4.5 ypc, 2 TD; 198 yards, 6.6 ypc, 3 TD; and 149 yards, 5.9 ypc, 1 TD. In his other 11 games, he's gone for 745 yards, 3.31 ypc, and 4 TD. Julius sure gets a lot of benefit of the doubt for a guy who has three skins on the wall. When it's all said and done, Julius will probably be closer to a Thomas Jones type than a legitimate franchise back. I think too many people are assuming he's going to be an All Pro based on a handful of games last year.

Barber now has 3 fumbles in 75 rush attempts... 1 fumble per 25 attempts. No player in the top 40 in the NFL in rushing has a worse fumble per carry ratio. That has to change.

I like the heck out of both guys> I do not like one more than the other. But I am willing to bet that Barber starts again Sunday and he will continue to start from now on. I'm willing to bet that.

Parcells will get on Barber about the fumble, but he will not bench him. All offensive players need to hold on to the ball, but there are times when if you are hit right, a ggod punch, and in this case it seems someone came up underneath Barber, and he lost the ball, but at those times you cannot stop the fumble from happening.
I've seen it many many times, I've experienced it once. I had the ball tucked good, but somehow it came out and it was not a hard hit. I held the ball with two hands for a couple of plays but that hindered my running so I just had to trust that I would not fumble again.

Barber, will be alright, he is not a habitual fumbler, none of our RBs are, it seems. I believe their fumbles happen due to inexperience and trying too hard to make things happen. As their careers go along they will know when to give up on a run and when to just run and hold the ball with two hands and try to run as much time off the clock, like tonight.

i just think that barber's style of running leads to him taking more shots that JJ, leading to the fumbles.

Marion Barber lost the starting job the moment he put the ball on the ground on our last drive.

Let him be the 3rd down back and spell Julius, that's enough.

the o-line made the point moot.. neither back ran particularly well. especially up the middle as the o-line couldn't really open anything up. Jone had a decent run to the outside on that 1 early carry that MB3 couldn't have made due to a lack of burst.
