Here's Todd Archer talking with David Smoak on KTBB Radio about Miles Austin and where he fits in this season...

Archer on KTBB

Tony Romo was saying great things about Miles Austin last summer and for a while it looked like Romo was on to something. But the little nagging injuries just kept popping up for Austin.

Archer says he thinks the Cowboys are looking at Austin to go for maybe 30-40 catches, but I think the Cowboys have bigger plans for him as the #2 WR.

I am looking at more like 50-60 catches and for him to be the guy that exploits the one on one coverages he should see with Witten and Roy Williams getting some bracket coverages in the deep middle or the field.

Romo is going to look for him more downfield than Crayton underneath if the offensive line gives him some time.

We also have to see if the Cowboys go after anyone in the draft too.

Which would make him better than Roy Williams... Roy Williams couldn't exploit the one-on-one match-ups he was getting....

I'll hold out judgement on Roy til after this season, he came to us late in the year and had a foot injury.

I read where Garrett wants to make him the "next Alvin Harper".

Big plays.

I just hope Roy or Miles can do something for us. Both have the potential to do what they should do.

In 3 seasons Miles Austin has not started an NFL football game. Only played in 16 games once and that was 2 seasons ago because of return duties.

I hope I am wrong but history says this guy can't hold up a whole season let alone cacth 50-60 balls when the most he's done is 13 in a season. Hurt, not ready or no opportunity, whatever reason it is those are the facts. Over 22 yards a catch however against mostly 3rd tier corners.

Like Austins potential but we're buying a real hit or miss stock here. Hopefully there's enough volatility throughout his career history to buck the trends and get a reward on this risk, our passing offense.

I think Miles is going to get underrated as WR from other teams. We all saw what he's capable of doing in that Packer game last year. He'll see alot of one-on-one coverages the first few games, but then teams will realize you can't take him lightly. Now, if he could just stay healthy!!!

I'm looking for 50-60 catches..800-900 yards from Austin. I have alot of faith and trust in that guy. He got hidden with injuries and by Roy and TO.

Thats what I want from him and I think he can do that good if he stays healthy.

His feet are really quick, he can go up and get a ball in traffic, he's really big, and really fast.

He looks like a big fast athlete that tried to pattern his game off Terry Glenn.

I'd much rather get rid of Crayton, give Miles a chance at 40+ catches and draft a WR in the 3rd or 4th. Maybe we can trade our 3rd or 4th and Crayton to move up? We still have Sam and that QB:)

I'm SO down to package Ellis/Crayton or Crayton/Bobby in a trade before the draft. I'd take a 5th for them together. Just get them off the team!!

He didn't use it as an excuse but you could tell from the way he couldn't plant that his foot was bothering him.

Not to mention the offense was geared to make TO happy and he never got to gel with Tony. Those are legit excuses.

to trade Crayton at this point would be very foolish IMO....besides RW11 he is the only other guy we can depend on for sure...we've seen him put up decent numbers in the number 2 before......RW11, Austin,Crayton and Hurd will all be needed this season

The guy only ran 3 routes the entire time he was here last season....

Makes a DB's job real easy when they know he is only running 1 of 3 routes

Combine that with the foot injury and that is the only explanation you need for your comment.

It amazes me sometimes how some fans have such strong opinions on stuff that they obviously have no clue about.

Im scared that the offense was TO happy and thats the best we could do of not getting him the ball and not even sending him on routes that made him what he is today.

As long as Miles gets a new chin strap I will be happy. Always erks me, would look much better with a different one. I'm very anal about equipment and how guys look for some reason.

You are absolutely right. It would be stupid to trade the receiver with the most experience on the entire team. Not to mention the fact that Crayton is productive. Getting rid of him with all the unknowns behind him would be foolish to say the least.

If thats the case. Then why did he have such a hard time learning our playbook?
