I sure hope not, Reese totally sucked at scouting and drafting in Tennesse.

THATS KINDA WHY THEY FIRED HIS ARSE AS GM AFTER THE 2006 SEASON!!!!

As for the rest of your post............semantics, a consultant is a consultant is a consultant and if you think the Pats hiring the Titan's trash GM is sooooo much better than Dallas hiring Reeves..........whatever:rolleyes:

I doubt they are hiring Reese to help Belichick do his job.

Well, it's not a normal situation, but I like having good football around. No one minded when Bill Parcells consulted with as many football guys as he could. I would like to see Jerry do more of the same because Larry Lacewell just doesn't cut it for me...

But I think a bad cop is needed for this franchise. Wade's not it, and that's fine. He knows he's not it. He treats his players with respect, and sometimes they take advantage of that. But I believe that Jerry is cut from the same cloth. I think Jerry would rather be buddies with the players than get really tough on them. And if he does have to get tough with them, I think that he would rather someone else have to deliver the message...

Dan Reeves is a smart, good man who knows football. If he can come in here as a sounding board for Jerry, Wade, Garrett, and anyone else, it's a good deal. If he gets a nice paycheck to do some of the dirty work that Wade and Jerry don't like to do, that's okay too.

As long as the players understand the end result, bottom-line is that they better get in line, I don't care how it's done.

I see it the sameway. Reeves is either here to be:HC,GM or consultant F/T?
The only logical answer is the principle office/hall monitor and as long as the players are held onto a tighter leash, its a good idea.

If they run their mouth too much Dan has a fine for you. If you are disruptive to the team Dan is going to help you pack. Some hard line that players must follow, in order to straighten out this B.S.

First order of business is Dan wants to visit with TO. :D

They also just lost Scott Pioli.

I think we are all aware of that fact, still doesnt change the fact Reese was hired as a consultant, not GM.

Besides, the last guy you want advising you on the draft and personnel is freaking Floyd Reese, the Titans fired his arse after the 2006 season for screwing up their cap and having terrible drafts.

Not that it matters to me, if the Pats want to replace Pioli with the Titan's trash GM that is their business.

And I see his role as more like what he did with the Texans. He sat in on meetings and watched how the game plans were developed etc.. He evaluated for the owner how the coaching stuff was doing. I do think due to his history with Wade he will try and assist Wade in making sure things are approached correctly and I do think he will make recommendations to Jerry regarding cleaning up that locker room to get better chemistry. Which again helps Wade a LOT. But all you guys that think he is coming in to be a vocal tough guy are going to be disappointed. Not unless he is named head coach anyway. His role is going to be to give a seasoned football voice regarding preparation of the team and evaluating the team and coaching staff.

Tex

Seems simple, doesn't it?

That was an absolute great take by Tex. Wish I'd seen it before. With all the whizzing in this thread, it was easy to miss.

The only problem as I see it is the Texans are bulding from the ground up. Dallas, take it or leave it is built for a while and have no choice but to keep it, so the Reeves consultant role in the since of team management does not seem logical.

This teams needs and problems are different, so you would assume his role in Dallas would require a different job description.

I remember Jerry speaking in a interview shortly after the season that he would change and he was making a hard point while alluding to something he was doing wrong would be eliminated. I think the interview was with Norm?

Tex

So basically Dan Reeves will be doing Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips' job?

Could Jerry Jones make it more clear that he doesn't think Wade Phillips is up to the job?

Would love to see him just hire Bill Cowher and give him the authority Bill Parcells had and entrust him with the duties that he is going to give Dan Reeves.

If Jerry Jones offered Bill Cowher that along with a lucrative deal, I believe Bill Cowher would strongly consider that.

True. But Jerry doesn't like walking on egg shells. He'll do anything to win, except walk on eggshells.

I don't see that at all. If anything, maybe he's saying his RJ needs help. But like Tex said, I still think this is Jerry saying HE needs help much more than the coaches.

Or I still say it's more likely that, since Jerry has never admitted needing help, this is a Stephen-inspired move.

And why do people keep clamoring for Jerry to hire a Cowher or Shanahan or Holmgren when these guys have insisted they aren't coaching this year? You can't hire someone who doesn't want a job.

You can't hire someone if you don't try to hire someone either. Now if Jerry approached these guys and they all told him they weren't interested in coaching this year then fine. But I don't think Jerry approached any of them. The last I heard him speak on the subject he stated "the coaches and personnel are in place. I can't be any clearer about that."

Jerry Jones should just hire a full time General Manager if that is the case. Even if Dan Reeves is able to help the organization, Dan Reeves is a consultant, will eventually leave and Jerry Jones will be in full control again. Seriously, Jerry Jones had front row seats to watch Bill Parcells, one of the most highly regarded "football" guys around for 4 years and 2 years after Bill Parcells leaves, Jerry Jones is begging for help again?

Jerry Jones PLEASE just hire a "football" guy full time and be done with it already.

Furthermore, when former Head Coaches like you mentioned state, "I don't want to coach this year", sometimes that can be translated as "I haven't been made an offer that is worth me coming out of retirement".

Reese wasn't even hired as a 'consultant'.

His title is 'senior football adviser'. He's basically there to make sure Caserio has an on the job trainer overseeing him. His duties will include the stuff I already mentioned, but also the contract negotiations as well.

And who said it was a better move?

I am saying the two hires are nowhere close to being similar. You tried to say they were.

But you didn't have a clue what you were talking about.

:laugh2:

And then Theo had even less of a clue.

It was a pretty good take.

But how many cooks do we need in this kitchen that has 'the best coaching staff ever assembled' according to Jerry Jones?

Did Jerry Jones actually make that claim?

The problem is even looking at Reeves as a cook. In most consultant/advisory roles, he wouldn't have any authority, nor would he have an active role in the running of the company. Most consultants I know evaluate business processes, etc and provide some sort of report or analysis of their findings.

Well, he is a former Cowboy, and his son-in-law is on the staff.

And he hated Jerry Jones for how he fired Landry. And who brought the son-in-law to Dallas, before Reeves was even hried? Wade had coached with Joe prior...
