Oh come on.

It was within 5 yards.

Marshall didn't do anything illegal. He made a great play, end of discussion.

It's not a free-for-all in that 5 yard area. There is no yardage limit to holding/illegal use of hands, it's always a penalty when your hands get grabby outside the player's frame. It just has to be seen.

Under your understanding of the rules, they'd play Witten out at WR, and if he's vs a safety/CB, they'd coach him to grab and throw the defender to the ground, and vs LBs to run past them.

I don't have enough space to download the needed programs on this computer (too much porn and lectures), so I just used vlc snapshots.

Anyway, here's the holding and corresponding tug, while doing a swim move. It's a pretty effective method of getting open. The CB is prevented from turning their hips to run with you and throws them off balance:

Here's all the frames I managed to get using the ghetto method. I should really drop the first frame, but your eyes can deal with it.

Great work. Atrocious no-call...the line judge should be standing right there watching that crap.

That kind of play happens all the time, in practically every game.

I am sure there was tugging and grabbing from Newman's side at one point or another that was an atrocious no-call too.

If you want referees who "let them play" then you will get this. If you don't want this, then you will have a flag-fest.

You win some, you lose some. This kind of ridiculous overanalysis wouldn't be happening if we made a play on offense to win the game.

And thanks to a poor throw by Orton, he was spared the humiliation of surrendering a long TD to Bernard Gaffney of all people. If not a TD, then certainly a long gain.

Not exactly the same play. Craytons route was different on the two plays.

Craytons route was different, or Crayton ran the wrong route? I would not rule out the latter.

Nice catch and run by Marshall. And nice push off to get it all started.

He didn't push off... Sorry. It was called attacking the football and getting it. The run after the catch was crazy, someone on defense should have tackled him though.

I think Newman's complaint was that Marshall grabbed him and threw him aside. A minor difference, I'm sure.

What would the penaltty be on this?

I don't think the refs should have thrown any flag. These are two vets going at it. Let them play.

If the refs threw flags on stuff like every time out Michael Irvin would have a three year career.

Newman shouldn't have let him grab him. He should have hand fought and knocked his hands down immediately. You don't let a WR put his hand on you like that and control you.

Looks like Sensabaugh fricked up on bb's sequence. Him or Hamlin. The corner there is obviously funneling him to the middle of the field.

Either that or TN missed the coverage call, but I doubt that.

And had Hurd caught it no one would be second guessing it now. He had 1 on 1 coverage. Had Romo thrown to the other side and it fell incomplete would the conversation be "You can't be afraid to throw to the WR in single coverage?" One thing is certain when a play fails the 1st thing out of people mouth is bad play calling
You sure got it right, enough up in here already! Let's move on and hope Romo gets his crap together.

Crayon ran an underneath out on 3rd. Ran a slant on 4th.

It happen right off the line. He got ahold of T. News shirt and yanked it.

I keep hearing that and when I see the replay I dont see it. Did that really happen??

On a side: I never knew why they called Brandon Baby TO. After that play I now know why - he WANTED that endzone and was going to get it.

Anyhoo

Actually it is simply more people coming off as apologists. Had Orton thrown a poor pass or Marshall dropped it, there would be no screaming about holding, a push off or anything else.

Plain and simple, Newman didn't get it done at the point of reception. Marshall made a great play and kudos to him.

Michael Irvin did it for years and I didn't hear Cowboy fans getting upset. Except when he got called for it and suddenly there was more "Cowboy bias" and more "hating".

Hmmm.

Back when Roy Williams was playing there, it was never his fault. I really wish people would make up their minds.
