Awful episode of Sons of Anarchy might change TV *spoilers*

Let me first start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of Sons of Anarchy, and was really looking forward to this season.

That being said, not only was the episode an awful premiere overall, but the depiction of a school shooting took things entirely too far.

There have already been calls for a la carte television, and I'm hoping that this disgusting episode puts things over the top.

I'm a big fan of SoA, too, but I have to say, I didn't think the school shooting went anywhere near as far as some of the more extreme episodes from last season. I even thought the scenes from the porn shoot in Sacto were harder to watch, honestly. It's a delicate subject matter, to be sure, but it was handled carefully, and it's pretty much essential to the plot for the season, going forward. It wasn't gratuitous violence.

I thought the parallels with the young boy writing in his journal, his physical resemblance to a young Jax, and the voice over early with Jax's journaling to his young sons--the advice he gives them as young men that the young shooter obviously did not have--were all really nice story-telling touches. That's such a good show, if you can get past the violence.

Give it a chance and see how it unfolds.

By the previews, it looks like the gun was connected to the club, and could result in a public outcry to get rid of them, or for the club to stop the gun running.

This is my favorite show on TV and I rather enjoyed the first episode.

Yes the school shooting is intense and terrible but that's the world we live in.

It's the natural cycle of things for TV shows, or movies, they use things from real life. Drugs, rape, murder, wars, racist groups and behavior, and now school shootings. This has already been done in movies and actually I think Law and Order has even had an episode where a kid(s) have been shot at or in a school.

It's a touchy subject, and a terrible event, for sure but it's nothing new.

In fact I'm certain that a show my wife used to love to watch One Tree Hill already did an episode where a kid brought a gun to high school and shot kids because he was tired of being bullied. This really isn't anything new to Television is my point I guess.

Exactly. The school shooting is terrible but lets not pretend that it's anything worse than what this episode did with the violent porn or any number of things this show, or many other shows, have done in the past and will continue to do. When you do TV shows around violent people and groups you're going to have to expect violent situations and they're all very very disturbing.

I love SOA and think the season premier was great. The most important thing when watching that show is to keep your expectations in check. This show has proven it will push the envelope without thinking twice. It's going to be a great year!

I think the premier is better if you watch it in a vacuum, because, in terms of plot development, I didnt get the sense that there was a whole lot going on.

When they warn of "Nudity". I don't want to see a guy's butt. That's my only complaint with the show. They can kill all the fictional children thay like.

I thought it was a good episode. Set up the new season very well. The school shooting comes full circle back to the club since the gun came from them. The beginning of the end.
