My expectations are for him to develop a good feel for the FS position, be able to play man and various zone coverages as well as being able to tackle well. I expect him to be a good man coverage safety given his cornerback skills and given his athleticism, be able to play zone fairly well.
What I *hope* for is different. I believe he could be a dynamic defender that spends most of his time at FS, but can lock on great TE's like Gronk and Reed as well as big WR's such as Alshon Jeffrey and Brandon Marshall and be a great zone safety along the lines of an Earl Thomas (it's a tall order, but I think he has that type of ability).
If we want more turnovers and we want more pressure on the QB, it really starts with the DB's being able to switch between zone and man efficiently and that will allow them to cover things up more and with our DB's being able to tackle. You're not going to get pressure on the QB if your DB's are relegated to playing only man or only zone. The QB's too easily know where to go with the ball when that happens. And you can't force turnovers when QB's know what you're doing.
I like what Seattle does....they play mostly zone, but they play enough man to make opposing QB's struggle to figure out what exactly they are going to do. They'll plan press coverage all of the time and mostly bail out into different zone coverages. But they plan enough man that the opposing offense isn't quite sure what they are doing because they are pressing the receivers. And then they can switch up into Cover 1, Cover 2 and Cover 3 and once in a blue moon Cover 4...just enough to delay the offense's decision making and get the offense to go the wrong way.
