Wondering what the opinion is ok McKinney on this Board? The Cowboys have shown interest in him.

From what I can make out, he could play muliple LB positions, plus perhaps the OTTO position. Below is a synopsis from Ourlads. I know we have met with Kendricks, and I like him as well. But I am wondering if we could use McKinney in muliple roles in our defense? He could even play the occasional 4-3 DE with his hand on the ground.

Analysis:

Fourth year junior entry. All American. Top tier athlete for the position that gradually improved his overall level of play throughout the 2014 season. Was also an accomplished high school quarterback and basketball player. McKinney is one of the most explosive 250 pound athletes in the nation. He is an easy mover that creates a tremendous amount of force in short areas. His physical gifts outweigh his skill set at the moment, but he is steadily improving the nuances and reading ability of the linebacker position. His upside and potential are among the best in this draft class.

McKinney is a natural playmaker and overall leader. Despite his impressive production on one of the stingier front-seven’s in the country, he’s only just beginning to tap into his potential. Very high ceiling for this kid but he also carries some risk because he still has a ways to go developmentally. Very versatile in terms of projection at the next level as he has the size and athleticism to play ILB, OLB in a 34 or DE in a 43.Shows high upside as an inside and outside pass rusher, can bend off the edge and penetrate up the middle. He’s far more NFL-ready to play the run than the pass, but certainly has the talent to improve his range in coverage. Above average open field tackler but more effective in the box. High character guy who has an infectious passion for the game.

A physical specimen that owns the middle of the field. A real run stuffer. Plays with sudden movements, gets started right off the snap. Huge linebacker with great power and explosiveness. He is always around the ball, by using his quick feet and long arms to get around linemen. Owns the middle of the field, with hard wrap up tackles. Has great length and straight line speed to play coverage. Was used as an every down player that constantly made highlight reel plays. Shows the frame and athleticism of a high level NFL linebacker.

As a pure LB, I think he is a Sam only here. Doesnt have the coverage skills to play Mike or Will in this scheme.

His value to us is if we really do intend to use an OTTO or Leo or whatever they want to use (although I do think the two are different somehow) and they utilize him as a rusher

Believe it not, I think there's a shot that he's there at 60.
Then, as mentioned above, it would depend on how they feel about him in the scheme. I like the player though

I am trusting my scouting department when it comes to LBs,they might have a specific plan if they draft him, looks like Ro out there.

I like him but I probably wouldn't pick him any higher than the 3rd round just because of opportunity cost. If we take him in the 2nd we're missing out on a talented back/corner/DL because I doubt he makes it to our pick in the third round.

I can't see him playing WLB so it undervalues him in our scheme. I definitely wouldn't mind having him, but he's either playing MLB or SLB and with the guys we have at LB right now, i'd much rather have a talented DL at that pick instead.

I hope McKinney last to the late second round. He is another Ro. McClain on the field but can play all three LB positions.

If Malcom Brown drops and is selected by the Cowboys first pick and McKinney last to Dallas second pick I predict a very solid front seven.

I can't see him lasting to #60, but if the team trades down from #27 and picks up an extra pick (a early to mid 2nd and a 3rd, for example), then I can see him being a good pick...I have been looking at him a lot lately and it wouldn't bother me to see him don the star...not sure how I would feel if they picked him @ #27 (kinda disappointed I think as I think that is too early)

Brown is my favorite guy that may be around our pick...I am also liking OO a lot too, but like McKinney, #27 could be a little early

A as normal 4-3 LB with not focus on pass rushing, he looks like a 3rd round pick to me because I think he would be a 2 down LB.

He they are really going to put more focus on something like an OTTO position then maybe that would make him more valuable to them, but I'm not certain that we've seen any verification on the OTTO rumors. That all seems to have come from the same source.
