How many games can we win with a below average oline and poor rushing attach?

Honestly, I don't know. But I do know one thing, we HAVE to keep teams guessing on first down, if not, we're dead.

Not many...but Bledsoe doesn't need 5 seconds to hit Witten or Fasano for a 6-10 yard gain or TO or Crayton on a slant.

We have to mix it up on 1st and 2nd down or we'll have trouble on 3rd and long.

First, I think you are jumping to conclusions about this Oline. We haven't seen them play together much at all. We haven't seen the entire offense together yet. I think the thing we need to look at is, is the talent this year better than last year and the answer is yes. And don't forget, we were 7-3 with a "bad" oline last year.

Well,
One example of a poor offensive line that won it all was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a few years ago. They also played record defense that year and "Pounded the Rock".

I see us having the opportunity to do the same type of things here. I also see our line being better than theirs was, but our defense not quite as good. We also have a more potent offense than they had.

I truly believe the offensive line is better overall than last year, especially after the Flo injury. Assuming Adams comes back, I see an upgrade at RT over a rookie 7th rounder with Columbo and Fabini. It just has to be better.

The real question is, how much worse is Kyle Kosier? I believe we are the same in pass protection with him and get better on pulling and screens, much better. But we also get worse in the power run game signifigantly.

Gurode appears to be a much better player, forgetting some plays last game of course. Rivera still worries me. He just looks really bad at times. Gets bull rushed far too often.

I think our Pass protection is improved from last season. Throw a potent TO and Glenn into the mix, and our Pass protection and Run game get a huge boost.

You must never see Bledsoe pat the ball incessantly before every pass then.

It seems to be a better line pass blocking than it is run blocking. I'm thinking it's going to have to be our passing game that sets up the running game.

Sure. And the pass blocking will be good enough against average and below average fronts.

The problem is that they won't be able to provide "Bledsoe level" pass protection against the better fronts.

Can we actually play a game this season before we pack it in and call it a failure?

That's always been a Bledsoe problem. He's easily defensible if you can take away his deep patterns and rush him.

Any QB is defensible if you rush him. Look what Pittsburgh did to Manning last year.

No.

They'll have to play more than just one game. They'll have to play several before the pattern emerges. That's how this stuff works.

Even the best OLs are challenged when they charged with protecting an immobile QB. And the Cowboys don't have one of the best OLs.

If Bledsoe is the starter throughout the season, the Cowboys have a chance of sneaking into the playoffs and then getting bounced.

Given the OL situation, Romo provides a greater "boom or bust" potential. The best realistic case scenerio with Romo is better than the best realistic case scenerio with Bledsoe (again, given the OL situation).

But Romo's worst case scenerio is also worse than Bledsoe's.

Mobile QBs, with moving pockets and on rollouts, tend to neutralize the effectiveness of the pass rush.

This is not one of Bledsoe's strengths (although he does have lots of other strengths).

You also aren't going to see 8-9 guys in the box once TO returns either.

If you do.....you should be very happy.

You don't understand. Things are bleak.

We just released Rob Pettiti.

Both statements are true, but not necessarily connected.

Things are not bleak. Have you guys actually watched the line in preseason? In the first 3 games they improved steadily in both pass and run blocking to a point where I would call the line pretty good at both. In week 4 the line pass blocked very well despite constant blitzing. Its very hard to run block against against 8-9 defenders in the box. For whatever reason the Vikings were playing run and stacking the line virtually every down. If it were a real game this would have been exploited heavily.
