Free agent pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil has agreed to terms on an multi-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, reports Mike Klis of The Denver Post.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dumervil will receive a five-year contract worth up to $35 million from the Ravens. Dumervil will receive $8.5 million in the first year of the contract.

Dumervil was scheduled to earn $12 million from the Denver Broncos this season before agreeing to take a $4 million pay cut to remain with the team. However, the three-time Pro Bowl unexpectedly hit the free agent market after his former agent, Martin Magid, failed to fax the paperwork back to the Broncos in time for them to submit the restructured contract to the league office by a 4 p.m. ET deadline on March 15, at which time Dumervil's entire $12 million base salary would have become fully guaranteed.

Pretty good deal for the Ravens. Good player.

Should be about what Spencer gets if he stays in Dallas. "Should" being the key word.

I don't understand the contract breakdown.

He has a base salary of $1 million. His SB is 7.5 over 5 years (1.5 million per year) . He has a cap number of 2.5 million yet is making 8.5 according to Schefter? They say "This means that, at some point, the Ravens will carry an extra $6 million on future salary cap(s) under Dumervil’s name."

What?

The signing bonus is 7.5 which he gets now but is prorated evenly over the contract for cap reasons. So it is a 1.5 million cap hit this year and the other 6 million is prorated over the next 4 years evenly. So since his base salary is 1 million and his signing bonus proration us 1.5 million this year its a 2.5 million cap hit but the player gets 8.5 million total this year.

This is how all contracts are done.

Dumervil only gets 7 million a year average, same age as Spencer with a lot better career stats. Only 12 million guarnteed.

Price keeps dropping for Spencer, I would only give him 5 year 33 now.

Oh, of course! Thanks, I had a dumb moment. I knew something wasn't working out in my head.

I'm not sure I would say Dumervil has a "lot better" career stats. He has more sacks, sure, but he's been in the league one year longer, and yet Spencer has nearly 150 more career tackles.
