Here's why I hate it: MBIII has an Earl Campbell running style which is running over people not around them. It will lead to a short career already. I think it is a bad idea to ask to be a lead blocker as well. Picking up the blitz is one thing, being a battering ram as a lead blocker is another. Hopefully now that his toe is healed he'll have a great season as a half back. Remember he only has so many plays in him'
I personally think Barber won't be here long anyways, especially if Felix blows up, and Choice shows some serious stuff as he did last year, I don't know if you can keep 3 great RBs.

So, there is a chance he's the one. Plus, it's not like they're going to be running him as a FB all game long, and he also won't play all game long.

If he's involved in 8 FB plays, and 14 of his own running plays, that's little wear, even for his violent style.

Some of you dogging Slate should check out the Sports zone for his response. He's the one who started the NBA Championshp thread and explained his new sig, as well.

I think you will see MB as a FB on an occasional play most every game. You may see Choice as well for MB or Felix. I don't see Felix doing this and I don't expect either to be a 'real' FB. Anyone can lead block on occasion even to just get in the way.

I don't see them lining up in the I a lot though but I suppose some esp if we carry a 'real' FB. I also expect to see some Hback duty from Phillips and maybe Witten some although after last year they may think twice about using him up. I'm interested to see some two back sets with two TEs and only one split/flanker. There is a lot of disguise in that formation to go with motion etc.

it's all in fun, nothing against the guy, and I hope that most of us get that.

Of course. I didn't think any of it was meant seriously. Hard to express that on the computer.

I was just pointing out where he'd explained his new avi/sig.

Not to mention we don't run FB sets as much as we did with the 90s SB teams, not like he'd be worn out, but it would create some interesting mis-matches and mis-directional plays, anything to keep the defense in suspense mode.

No we don't. I like Barber as FB with Jones in the split-I like we ran with Moose or in split backs or T formation.

I think Barber's ability to play like a FB is being underestimated. He plays so much larger and is so much stronger than his listed 6-0 225lbs would suggest.

I don't want this to just better utilize our three backs, I really think Barber could excel at FB.

We lose size and power with him as a lead blocker, but we gain quickness. He's less likely to whiff on blocks. He'll be quicker than most of the LB's he'll be blocking. Blocking is often more about engaging the guy than knocking him back.

We really benefit in the passing game. The FB usually draws the weakest coverage LB. He could do a lot of damage as a receiver.

How about sending Jones in motion out wide.

Calling SLATE. Come in SLATE. Don't pull a Lebron on us. :D

Oh I'm here!! I was at a friends BBQ all day..sorry I couldn't grace you guys with my presence. I know y'all missed me and my wonderful analysis.

Magic in 6. No answers for Dwight Howard,Rashard Lewis or Hedo. They went 2-0 in the regular season. They know how to beat them. Whatever they are doing, it's obviously working. Beating the defending champs. Beating God. And now they are going to beat the Black Gardner Snake. I'm not a Laker Hater. I'm a fan of the East!!

I would not be suprised to see Barber lined up in a 2 back formation but not in a traditional FB role. I understand the theory of saving him until the 4th qrt but I don't think that will be the case because like any back Barber needs some touches earlier in the game so he does not come in cold in the 4th qrt.

I'd like to see Barber line up at FB with Felix at HB then motion Felix out as a WR.

This is stuff they said we'd see last year, and Felix used as a WR threat but it never happened. Whenever Felix went out he was a decoy and I don't remember ever seeing both of them line up in the backfield.

Hopefully someone will find the stones to try it this season.

Think I 've brought this up 3 or 4 times in other threads without much of a response.

I don't think it deserves it's own thread but WTH, it's May31st.

I'm not talking about a full time switch here. Maybe 20-25 plays.

Lets say we average 63 plays a game.

Down and distance and game situation will dictate a 3 WR set for about 18-20 plays a game.

I'd like to see Bennett with Witten in a two TE set for another 20-25 plays.

That would leave about 20-25 plays for a two back set.

Don't you think Barber at FB for those plays keeps our best players on the field?
NO on barber as FB.

But I would like to see some pairings of RBs and TEs. The TEs is not at all far-fetched...happens all the time.

I don't mind pairing Barber and Felix for a few plays per game either....but Barber is a great runner, not a blocker. So this pairing would be to shake things up only.

But that's my point, is he a good blocker. He's very a physical player.

Barber at FB causes more match-up problems.

Key is selling Barber on it and that shouldn't be hard.

He has to understand that with Jones and Choice behind him he can't expect to play RB for more than half our snaps.

Playing some FB won't reduce his RB playing time one bit.

And since he just signed a big extension, he doesn't need to worry about losing value.
