So...we could use a backup QB, would anyone give Garrett Gilbert a call in the Alliance? He looks like he could be a decent backup. Would rather him than Cooper Rush.

I would think Matthews, Irvin , Perry and possibly Jordan would be out of our price range, unless you think age/health has brought down their costs. Not sure on some of the others.
Yeah, that's totally what I was thinking. These guys are still on the market and they'll likely get prove it deals.

I was thinking about Gilbert when I provided a list, but thought they may stand pat at QB. However, bringing Garrett Gilbert to camp would push Rush n White and he'd probably sign for vet minimum...like this idea.

RB - Daniel Lasco n Spencer Ware
WR - Leonte Carroo, Justin Hardy, Rashad Green, Kevin White and Cody Latimer
DE - Benson Mayowa, Aaron Lynch, Shane Ray, Nick Perry, Clay Matthews, Dion Jordan, Bruce Irvin, Kasim Edebali, and Jeremiah Attaochu
DT - Tyeler Davison, Darius Philon and Chris Covington
S - Clayton Geathers, Adrian Phillips, Antone Exum and George Iloka

Aaron Lynch on a low cost contract would be interesting. Maybe an incentive type contract.

What happened to Shane Ray. I thought he was an ascending player just a couple of years ago.

Bruce Irvin would be good to have on the team but somebody will give him more than backup money. He can play OLB or DE as a pass rush specialist. He had 6 sacks last year despite only 9 startscand switching teams mid-season.

Nick Perry might look better in a 4-3 than the Packers 3-4.

Iloka played more FS in the games I've reviewed but he did play SS at some points in his career. I think at SS he would be interesting.

Clay Matthews will get paid too much because of past performance.

Kevin White as a previous 1st round pick (7th in 2015) is the type that tends to interest the Cowboys as reclamation projects. He has played 14 games of a possible 64.

Jeremiah Attaochu has primarily been in a 3-4. Tge Cowboys like to look at players from 3-4 teams that might be better in the 4-3.

Is Darius Philon cheap? He was a starter last season and is only 25.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He is probably more expensive than who we got in Covington. I doubt they double dip on the DL. We got Covington, we are good. Or something.

Really liking your analysis, haha, makes me think this team can out the this wave with some contributors...at least they can fill some of their holes.

The Cowboys still have all of their starters from last season except pseudo-starter Beasley and pseudo-starter SLB Wilson. Neither slot WR or SLB are full time positions. SLB plays between 15 to 30 percent of the snaps depending on matchups.

Swaim did start some games but was out by about mid-season. Witten might not have much remaining in the tank but he should be able to replace Geoff Swaim...

Taco started 7 games at RDE vs 1 start by Gregory. Crawford made the other starts there.

The Cowboys did play great run defense in several games; although obviously not against the Rams.

Coaching is a bigger issue this season than which players are added to the roster.

Hold on now that's too much positive perspective. Wow...ok, so the best chance to find a starter in FA is at RE, SAM or Slot (situational spots). Although, I'd like some real competition for A. Woods n M. Collins.

Until Bradley Chubb was drafted Shane Ray was having a nice start to his career.
4 wrist surgeries have held him back but I'd at least get the Dr to check him out. .

A couple of players who were recently not tendered and will become unrestricted free agents. These type of players seem right up our (cheapskate) alley.

Rickey Jefferson, Safety (5-11, 208), Saints (LSU), Age 24
Shilique Calhoun, Defensive End (6-4/250), Raiders (Michigan State), Age 26
Jaydon Mickens, Wide Receiver (5-11/170), Jaguars (Washington) , Age 24

We missed out on Tony Jefferson late in the draft and again cheap in free agency a few years ago. A couple of retreads like that would be very helpful.
