Precisely. With nearly double digit draft choices, I would prefer to continue to build via that process
I agree, and thats what I think will happen this offseason
than simply allowing Jerry Jones to throw money at mercenaries any longer.
we really havent done much of that since free agency began...there's a few times we've made some splashes, but most of the guys getting the big money contracts are our own home grown players, and thats the way it should be
Let the scouts do their jobs and find the right personality fits for this team.
agree again, and think they will do just that
Our 2008 draft was a success not just for the talent we got, but the personalities.
yep
Felix Jones, Tashard Choice and Orlando Scandrick are coaches dreams. Jenkins and Bennett were the talented but headcase types. Who were the most productive?
Bennett was pretty damn productive....Jenkins should have been playing CB ahead of Pac Trash and Henry all along...the other 3 were excellent rookies as well...all 5 were quality picks
That is part of Jones' problem. He weighs "talent" far too much in the evaluation process. That is how you get a roster full of individuals with no team identity like we have right now.
it is the GM's job to acquire talent...you can have a roster of 53 try hard, lunch pail guys all you want, but if they all lack talent you'll be a consistent loser...Jones hasnt went out trying to sign every free agent star (the way the Yankees in baseball do) in spite of what people perceive....look at the offense, defense and special teams now...Romo, Barber, F Jones, Choice, Anderson, Crayton, Austin, Witten, Bennett, Adams, Gurode, Ratliff, Canty, Spears, Hatcher, Bowen, James, Ware, Spencer, Ellis, Burnett, Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, RW 38, Davis, Folk, McBriar were all drafted or signed as rookie free agents by us...only L. Davis, Owens and RW 11 were really high priced players we acquired from elsewhere...guys like Kosier, Z Thomas, Colombo, Henry and Hamlin were all signed to relative bargain deals when originally signed.
