it is the GM's job to acquire talent...you can have a roster of 53 try hard, lunch pail guys all you want, but if they all lack talent you'll be a consistent loser...

If it were that simple, practically anyone could be a GM provided they have deep enough pockets. The thing is, it is not that simple.

You have to have a blend of personalities. You have to have leaders and followers. Superstars and lunchpail types. Those who are so athletically gifted they don't have to try and those who have to overachieve to make it.

Team building is not easy. You have to have the right blend of personalities and have them all buy into the program. It is not easy. But when you have the majority of the players being driven by personal goals, then you probably have too many that believe they are superstars. When most are well paid, then you have content superstars.

If you swing too far one way or the other, that is where you hit difficulties. We have prima donna first round linebackers pretending to be special teams aces. That is insane.

System Linebacker.. Two words for you: Edgerton Hartwell.. Did well in Baltimore's system.. Spent two disapointing seasons in Atlanta then got cut...

that, and I think he's a strong-side LB

we have one in Bradie

I'd rather we get a young, fast guy to man the weak-side spot

Id rather steal Dansby from Zona and put him next to James.

I like Dansby too. I would however like to actually draft right and build right instead of just forking out big pay for FA's all the time but that would be too smart a move by our front office. Going after FA's all the time is gonna come back and bite us in the rear if it hasn't already.

I hate when people say the cowboys fork over big money on FA's..we've had two big ones in the last 4 years..Owens and Leonard Davis and few sprinkled in (henry,Zach)..most of the guys we pay big contract to are people who we drafted (Flo,Barber,Newman,Ware,Witten)

We need to get that ILB spot taken care of after Ware gets paid...pretty important postition, and I dont want Bobby starting there.

I don't want him, tired of over paid FA's and he probably doesn't want to be in this circus anyway unless Jerry offers him a ton of cash.

We need to grow our own instead of doing the fantasy football thing.

Meh, he reminds me of Edgerton Hartwell. He was a very good player in that system, but once he left Baltimore he busted.

Wouldn't that actually be on the coaches? I mean you either set players up to succeed based on their strengths and skills or you set them up to fail right? How do teams with average to mediocre talent make it to the playoffs?
