The reason you are excited is because he is a relative unknown, at this point.

It's not for me, anyway. I like him because I liked the pick at the time in that he had all the physical tools in the world and not a ton of football experience. I liked most everything saw from him as a rookie where he was strong against the run, exhibited good strength, and got good specific reviews from his position coach who said he'd probably exceeded his expectations for his first year and that he now needed to work on is pass rush technique. I liked the buzz on him from multiple teammates, including both defensive linemates (Hatcher) and offensive players (Tony). I thought it boded well for him that he had so much talking coming out of OTAs and so many were disappointed when he went down with the ACL.

We've seen trajectories like Crawfords on players like Spencer and Hatcher who were disruptive for a long time before their stat sheets showed enough for more people to believe it. The only real question I have about Crawford is whether or not the significant injury derailed his trajectory. Early on, it looks promising, so I can see why the OP is excited. We'll see how much time he earns in a weak DL group and how he does from there, but in Crawford's case, at least, there's legitimate cause to be hopeful. We've got a lot of other guys on the roster who are actual relative unknowns.

Given the fact that he got a reputation for laziness from his time in Jacksonville for his work ethic, it is a little concerning. He is not super talented, so if you pair that trait up with it, not impressive.
I really hope this isn't true. And I hope that if it is true, a coach would actually jump him and not another player. What are the coaches doing?

I would have to see Crawford in an actual game before I start feeling good about him.

There is a report of Scandrick calling Mincey out for being the last on the field but this stuff about his reputation is crap you manufactured.

He was penalized for missing practices in Jax bc his attention was directed at his record lablel? RKG n junk..."he loves to play football (of all sports?) who woulda thought!"

I've never seen anything about him being lazy or having a poor work ethic. His issue was just being late to practice and meetings.

Marinelli was on the radio the other day and talked about Mincey being a "high motor" guy.

Being late is a poor work ethic. And Mincey has said himself that he's trying to loose weight, a sign of being lazy. This guy is a bum.

No, I like what I've read. I've been a pretty vocal critic of the new defensive line because people are counting on unknowns and castoffs to carry the day.

That Crawford seems to be at least holding his own against our starters is evidence of some ability to be disruptive, which is what we need. It doesn't mean he's going to carry it through, but all we've got right now is the evidence at hand.

That evidence shows Crawford being our most effective DL at the moment, with Melton up and down, Mincey only flashing a few times and not much at all has been said about Hayden. Some of the backups have flashed, particularly Coleman and Wilson (along with Bishop), but some of that is coming against backups so it possibly doesn't mean anything.

So obviously we still don't know what we've got, but at least we can read a few tea leaves.

When Crawford played at BSU I always thought he looked like a guy growing into the game whose best might come in the pros. I also saw him at the grocery store once and was frightened at how large of a guy he is. He looked out of scale with the rest of the world.
