Biggest deal here. Not much known about him. He's a shadow behind a great DC. Could go either way. I'm lukewarm on this hire- if it occurs.
That would mean, for me, that it's time to shop Dak.We need some young blood and fresh ideas. Nobody over 50.......which I realize disqualifies me from the job.
At this point, is it time to question McClay’s decisions??If Will McClay likes him that's good enough for me.
That would be my only concern. I have trouble with hiring defensive assistants to great defensive coaches because they may only be benefiting from the great defensive coach. It's kind of like hiring a defensive coordinator from a team with a defensive head coach. How much of a role did that DC have in the scheme?Biggest deal here. Not much known about him. Yeah, but by default almost every great DC was once a defensive assistant. That would be my only concern. You could have a room packed with NFL experts and it would not matter. Look at the end of the table. There sitting in the chairman position is a smiling Jethro and he makes the decision. What's sad is he still is easily the most informed voice in the room.
On Friday’s show of Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan, @BobbyBeltTX said the team could have already scheduled an interview with their “favorite” in Leonhard.
Bobby also mentioned Will McClay really respects Leonhard and believes “it’s a mutual feeling” that Leonhard would like to be in Dallas if certain opportunities were presented.
The team is set to interview the Broncos' pass game coordinator for their defensive coordinator vacancy today.
True, but I don't trust this front office to pick the next great one. Of course, I don't trust this front office to pick a former DC or former head coach who will be a great DC, either.Yeah, but by default almost every great DC was once a defensive assistant.
I don’t know man. Most of the coaches from the Shanahan tree do quite well. That would be my only concern. Eh, this franchise hasn't had the greatest track record in hiring experienced/retread DC's or even ones who used to once be DC's in Dallas. Maybe some fresh blood who is unknown is what we need.Biggest deal here. Not much known about him. He's a shadow behind a great DC. Could go either way. I'm lukewarm on this hire- if it occurs.
Probably that... and if Jerry isn't going to set him up to fail. He probably means both things lol.Maybe he means how much money is going to be thrown at him. LOL
You do realize that his last 3 DC were the highest or amoung the highest payed coordinators in the NFL right?Jerry has made it known he doesn’t like to pay for coaches.
He doesn’t respect the position.
He thinks anyone can coach. Hence “scheme up pressure”
Its like people just completely make things up. Out of all the things to critique about this franchise, the amount they pay assistants isnt one of themHe’s had some of the highest paid assistant coaches. Quinn was paid well. Now his head coaches haven’t.
At all. I’ve heard a few people say that too I don’t know where that narrative came from. Its like people just completely make things up. Out of all the things to critique about this franchise, the amount they pay assistants isnt one of them
Its just hollow group thinkAt all. I’ve heard a few people say that too I don’t know where that narrative came from.
The top, established candidates are holding out for HC jobs. Nobody is going to leave an established defense to rebuild ours and potentially hurt their high stock. He might be the best realistic option.
The Jones boys can't afford any of the top, established candidates.
The Cowboys have had one of the three highest paid non-head coaches on their staff over half the years Jerry has been our owner.Jerry has made it known he doesn’t like to pay for coaches.

You don't suppose Dallas might be mistaking him for Kellen Moore? He looks a bit like him.

I like the idea of him being teaching focused. The Broncos secondary was really good this past season.
....Obviously you didn't see Riley Moss get cooked on a weekly basis.
