Let it go, it's not happening. Collins is a guard.
why can't you have 5 pro bowlers? 4 are first round talents.
Free doesn't have to suck because of some quota, he is allowed to be good. he actually was once, along time ago when he signed a 4/32m contract and then he forget how to play.
Well of course you can have 5 pro bowlers, but it's about a use of resources. If you have 5 pro bowlers on your OL, you've either gotten really lucky or are throwing a lot of money/draft picks at OL. I think we've allocated enough (and been very fortunate in the draft), especially since some of the young guys are about to command massive raises in the next few years.
Free is getting paid 3/5/6m the next few years, which is relative value for a decent player. Would you rather spend big this off-season on a RT in FA or top draft pick or spend that instead on defense? I'd rather on defense considering the value he's currently providing.
Free has had the highest cap charge for our OL for years. He isn't cheap by any means.
I just want someone better than Free.
Green, Collins, Draft pick, UDFA or FA
He's the 14th highest paid RT in the league, and by any rating metric you can find he's performing better than that.
That's misleading. Free's contract is structured so he get 6MM this year if he is cut after this season (4.5 in signing bonus and 1.5 in salary). If he is around next season, his cap hit will be 5.5MM (4MM salary and 1.5M of the signing bonus) and another 1.5MM in dead money if he is cut after that year.
6MM per season is in line with the top RTs in the game and Free isn't anywhere close to that.
I'd rather they move Martin to tackle in this scenario

Exactly and he also has a 4m dead money charge from his last contract that counts this year.
So his total cap charge this year is 7m and he still has 3m in dead money left.
He is being paid like a pro bowler at RT
Chaz Green did NOT look good in pre-season. He looked REALLY bad.
I was just quoting if the team will keep him. If you want to cut him it's different, no? Look man, I'm in no way against getting better at the RT, but it's gonna cost a ton. We can keep him going at a huge marginal value. That's all I meant. My point is relative value. I'll keep Free at his current (not cut) value if we can spend a high pick on D.
Dead money is sunk cost. Guys, I'm with you, I'd rather have a better RT, but would you rather spend a percentage of our cap on a RT or defenese? I say defense. No probs if you differ.
I think you got a glimpse why nothing has been done.....Charles Brown ended up getting a penalty tonight....and he plays what???? 3 snaps? I just don't think they have anyone better....or a move would have been made by now. I'd like to see what Chaz Green has...but from everything I've read he's a real finesss player.....that might be best suited to backup T. Smith. Cowboys really need to find a replacement though. He's such a drive killing machine. Chaulk up 4 more drives tonight w/ his QB pressures....
I would like to see one series where he doesn't do something to set the team back. Just one series. If he's not giving up a sack....It's a QB pressure...that leads to an incompletion. If he isn't called for holding...then it's because he false started. The guy is a never ending drive killer. It's no coincidence the Cowboys went on their winning streak last year when he was put on IR.
I hope Chaz becomes another Tyron Smith but as of today he doesn't exist.I think Chaz will have to beat out Free in the preseason to become the starter, even in meaningless games, and I'll be surprised if it happens. If he proves worthy of playing time, though, Dallas could rotate him in some like they did with Parnell.
Doug Free has been called for 9 penalties this year. Tyron Smith has been called for 7. Smith has been called for holding 4 times to Free's 1 holding call.
Obviously Smith is a better player but let's not create crap to justify your hatred towards cowboyszone's whipping boy Doug Free.
