Bengals not tagging Trey Hendrickson

We need all of them.

Also. DE is our most important need. The cowboys are going nowhere if they don’t fix the pass rush which was horrible last year.
Agreed. When we finally show that we value DTs, some of our fans want us to devalue pass rushers. No cornerback can maintain coverage if you don't get pressure, and if you have to do it every time with the blitz, you are creating holes in your coverage.

I still see pass rusher as our No. 1 need. That we also have needs at MLB, S and CB makes it tough to fill all of our needs and impossible to do it through the draft alone.

Give me Hendrickson please, immediately solves the pass rush problem with no draft capital spent. Jones boys want to prove they are serious then go get him and MLB in the first week of free agency,
Exactly. Sign Hendrickson

And to sweeten the pie.

Trade #12 for Cosby and #36 pick. Man, our front 5 would be awesome. We get these 2 plus a few lower tier FAs that Parker likes and still have a 1st and 2nd. We would be setup for a nice 3 year run.

While I wouldn’t hate Hendrickson I doubt he fits the gap and a half style CP has talked up. A knock on Hendrickson is that while he’s a fantastic pass rusher he’s not just poor against the run, but will often ignore run responsibility on way to the qb. I’m guessing, but think CP wants more gap disciplined players.
17 sacks in 2 of 3 seasons. 17 sacks. If Sam Williams played exactly like he played this season but got 17 sacks, he would be getting 30 mil a year

You could still get 2 others and pay Hendrickson (plenty of cap), at some point you need a couple of game changers that win you ball games. Hendrickson is that guy. With our offense you get him and a stud MLB and draft wisely (CB,SS, FS) you have got something yo can contend with.

I don’t think Hendrickson is a good fit for the 3-4 defense.
How so?
Lol, seriously. Who's gonna rush the QB on our defense from the outside LB spot?

If Eze or Clowney can start there, im pretty sure Hendrickson can.

If we don't trade for Cosby than Hemdrikson would be a solid signing.

Not sure what Hendrickson is asking for but after a down year we may be able to get him a little cheaper than normal.

Maybe 3 years 75 mil or 4 years 110 mil. Somewhere in that neighborhood. He's worth 25-30 mil a year easy.
the only issue Hendrickson would have is that he’s really big. 15-20 lbs heavier than the typical 4-3 edge. That would hurt him when he’s covering out of the backfields soothing he’s never had to do

It looks like you’ve answered your own question.

He excels at creating disruption behind the line of scrimmage, often resulting in tackles for loss, rather than stuffing runs at the line.
  • Overall Grade: 82.9
  • Pass-Rush Grade: 90.0
  • Run Defense Context: While often focused on rushing the passer, his overall defensive performance remains high due to his elite ability to disrupt.

Yeah but check out the results.

He was a JAG when he was at LB.
He wasn’t a JAG, he was inconsistent and it was early in his career who was considered raw coming out of college. A 3-4 base defense only plays about 30% of the snaps there. There would be a lot of 5-2 nickel where he is good at.

And he's way too expensive to play situationally in Dime.

Sure, but what does that have to do with fitting within a scheme?

only a football fool thinks DE is the greatest need

A really good coach adjusts his scheme to fit his talent

If parker cannot figure out how to use talent like this, then he is a lousy DC

It also results in open gaps leading to big plays. Nothing wrong with that if your defense is a high risk/high reward design...kinda like our defense under DQ, but I'm guessing that CP wants more discipline from some of his interviews. Could be wrong, we really dont know all that much about the scheme he wants to implement, but overall Trey is a poor run defender who sells out for the splash play which leaves your LBs vulnerable. I'm all for bringing him in as it creates a massive pass rush opportunity for this DL, but we have to acknowledge the downside to his style of play as well.

To an extent, sure I would agree with that. It seems like the Cowboys are focused on aligning the defense to fit around their interior players though. I'm skeptical they want to overhaul their defensive model to fit Hendrickson when they have massive investments in Clark/Williams/OSA who they seem to be prioritizing the defense around.
