Benson Mayowa Breakdown

I can agree with the OP when looking at 2017 season, though I think there's always a chance one of the pure pass rushers who are not deemed top draft picks because they aren't ready to hold up as the every down DEs may be there for us, but I also think you can't draft and plan your future based on 2017. There are DEs who can develop over 2-3 years who have more potential.

I didn't say fit perfectly...playing great...well, I guess I should have said...do their job well enough on the majority of the downs, and have rotational players when needed.
This rotating players stuff to keep them fresh is in the past. We seen it time after time lately. They can't handle the hurry up offense as well because they are specialized to do certain things.

So if you can't rotate your run stuffers for pass rushers when needed, what's the point. Need players that can play all 4 downs if needed.
 
If mayowa was considered better than all the DEs in this draft, then we could easily trade him for a 1st rd pick! I doubt any team would give us more than a late 6th for him.

Shoot let's trade him a first, Malik Collins for a first, David Irving for a first, and brown for a first rd pick. Then including our #28th pick, we would have 5 first rd picks. Domination.

No team including the Cowboys will play Barnett at RDE. Now would I draft Barnett and start him at LDE, of course. Potential is there for a few of these guys to be better than him at RDE but none of them will be as good as he is immediately.
 
Benson has had real sacks in real games. And a 4 sack in 5 game stretch shouldn't be downplayed.

Many a great prospect never actually do anything on the field.

Having said that i'd trade Benson straight up for quite a few DE prospects in this draft.

I got ya man. And I agree with everything except the rotating players, I'm a big fan of that on d, even when we have to put good players on the sideline to keep them fresh.

I think that is his ceiling, a +5 sack rotational guy. I do not think he is a starter or a 3 down DE. He was place in a bad position last year to start and play a lot of snaps. Put him in those known passing downs so he can focus on rushing the qb. That is how you can get the best out of a guy like Mayowa.
 
I stopped watching the 3-4 replays of every good play breakdown when there was raving over his effort in stopping the Cleveland QB for a 2 yard gain on a 1 yard to go sneak. That's the kind of play that agents will surely use to justify a $100 million deal next offseason.
 
The scary thing is the OP isn't completely wrong. Mayowa had 6 sacks last season in just 342 snaps. He very well could be a 10+ sack player over an entire season, and the odds of finding that in the draft are pretty slim. The problem with Mayowa is even if he gets 10+ sacks he still isn't really a dominant force that draws double teams, and brings consistent pressure.

DEs typically take some time to develop in the NFL so whether we take one at 28 or not, we still need someone out of Mayowa/Lawrence/Irvin to become a more complete player.

good post. Even if we draft a DE in round one, he very likely won't have an impact until 2-3 years from now.
 
right now, i believe hes solid. For every up he has, he levels it out in another. Lets just hope the coaches give him a good opportunity and see if he makes the most of it.

There is some nice stuff in the video but people shouldn't get carried away.
