Love to hear what others dug

in no order

LCD Soundsystem -- Sounds of Silver -- saw them play in Vancouver and was blown away

I'm Not There Soundtrack -- tons of amazing bands and artists (Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Calexico, Sufjan Stevens, Jim James ... the list goes on and on) covering Dylan songs in amazing and interesting ways.

Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew - Spirit if.

Feist - The Reminder -- So she is in ads for the iPod, Lifetime TV, and is popular with the adult contemporary crowd. This album is excellent.

Besnard Lakes - Are the Darkhorse

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

Panda Bear - Person Pitch (one of the main guys in Animal Collective) -- this one is #1 on a ton of year end lists

Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala - this may be my favorite of the year

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer

Spoon - Ga ga ga ga ga

Handsome Furs - Plague Park

Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover

Radiohead - In Rainbows - duh.

The National - Boxer

I have only gotten a few cds that came out in 07, at least I think these came out in 07.

The Apostasy by Behemoth - This is death metal and if you liked groups like morbid angel and nile than this one is along those lines.

Ithyphallic by Nile

With Oden on our Side - Amon Amarth

Runnin Wild - Airbourne - this group is like a young ACDC, not as good of course but not terrible.

May be an acquired taste (because my musical tastes are all over the place), but the one whole new album I bought last year and played a lot was the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss collaboration "Raising Sand."

Bought the Kanye West, too, though mostly because my husband wanted it. Don't listen to it much, but that "Flashing Lights" track really grew on me, as much as I hate to admit it.

I kinda liked what I heard of the Serj Tankian stuff on iTunes, too (BIG SoaD fan), but wasn't compelled to buy yet.

Having the ability to preview every song on an album, and then maybe buy just the one or two tracks I like has really changed my music-buying habits. Because really good radio programming is pretty much dead, and I don't spend time in the car listening like I used to, it takes a lot more effort to find the really interesting stuff being made out there, and I don't always have the time.

Most of the whole CDs I buy anymore are older things I really loved and used to have on tape or vinyl (because I'm that old and still love my 80's new wave), or are rounding out my collection of people I already have (bought every scrap of REM, Ray Charles, Sting, and classic Stevie Wonder--not his newer crap--I could find).

I rarely buy new CDs anymore but I listen to some really cool alt rock radio stations. So some of my favorite stuff from last year includes songs off the following albums:

Fountains of Wayne - Traffic and Weather
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
Kings Of Leon- Because of the Times
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

I guess I listen to too much classic rock because the only bands I recognized were a couple of the one Duane mentioned.:

I love The White Stripes, but I was very disappointed with Icky Thump. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga has its moments (Don't You Evah is a killer) but I prefer Gimme Fiction and Kill The Moonlight.

In Rainbows is simply brilliant.

I dug these as well -- I just felt each band, well, they've got a better album in them.

What, nobody liked "Long Road Out of Eden"??

Well, to be fair, I didn't like the disc that was a collection of love songs either, they all tended to start sounding alike... but the other disc was very interesting, and the title song was as good as anything they've ever done...
