Here are some single-season rushing stats for a number of Cowboys QBs, see if you can guess who they are (without looking them up online). I think you will be surprised...

--Att-Yards-Avg-TDs
1. 41 - 343 - 8.4 - 2
2. 51 - 314 - 6.2 - 2
3. 38 - 302 - 7.9 - 0
4. 68 - 257 - 3.8 - 2
5. 38 - 242 - 6.4 - 5
6. 31 - 129 - 4.2 - 2

These were the best rushing years for each QB, so who were these guys?

I don't know about stats, but Roger the Dodger was the best running QB in Dallas Cowboys history.

Good try but 0-6.

You got 5 of the names right though, just not with the correct stats.

You got two of them right, Staubach is #1 and Meredith is #5. Good guesses!

In 1971 Staubach had his best year rushing considering he only played part time for the first half of the season. 1974 & 75 were also good years for him as he posted:

1974 - 47 - 320 - 6.8 - 3
1975 - 55 - 316 - 5.7 - 4

Meredith wasn't known as a running QB but he had a couple of good seasons in 1965 & 66. The on I posted was from 1966 but in 65 he had:

1965 - 35 - 247 - 7.5 - 1

Nice job, let's see if anyone can come up with the rest.

You got two as well, Quincy Carter was #4 and Romo is #6. Good guesses!

Carter's was from 2003 and he was running for his life most of the time.

Romo's was from 2007. Looking at his rushing stats is what got me to thinking about this in the first place. He ran pretty well in his first two seasons but was much less effective last season. I think he needs to pull the ball down and run more often when no one is open, which is what he did his first two seasons, and not try to make something happen downfield every time.

That's 4 down and 2 to go...

Pretty good guys.

Troy Aikman is #3, from 1989, his rookie season.

I remember watching him that year and thinking that he reminded me of Staubach in how mobile he was. His average that year was 7.9 yards, which is amazing! Compare that to Carter's 3.8 yards per rush or Romo's 4.2.

He ran about the same number of times in a couple more seasons but the yardage was nowhere near what it was in '89. He had 172 yards on 40 carries the following year but had only two more seasons of 125 and 100 yards. After that he never broke 80 yards rushing in a season, which is the way most people remember him.

Not LeBaron, Leaf or Wright but it is a guy who only played a couple of years with us. He did start 30 games for us though.

Just checked Leaf's rushing stats for the year he was with us and he ran 4 times for minus 7 yards. Man he sucked!!!
