Beyond DEs, what the team is missing

I think we badly need a MIKE and need to figure out what we're going to do with Heath. The MIKE position is more important now because offenses have changed to put a lot of responsibilities on the MIKE. He needs to be a player that can defend the run, get out to the perimeter, take on TE's and blitz. The defense was very disorganized and gave up points purely on lack of quality communication. And we still are not nearly as fast on the field as this defense needs to be. When you're a 4-3 scheme, you need some elite level speed on the field to be good. The Seahawks have that as KJ Wright and Bobby Wagner fly to the ball and Earl Thomas has elite speed at the safety level. Then the D-Line is very fast.

I think 3 guys we need to look out for next year are Damien Wilson, Jaylon Smith and Kavon Frazier. If they develop well, we could see a major improvement on defense.

Stud DT, pass rushing end, playmaking safety, ball-hawking CB. Take your pick.

Is there one player in the secondary you say to yourself I hope he is a Cowboy for life? Not seeing anyone like that.

Not sure, having 5 seconds or more to defend would make almost any DB look bad. I have nothing against spending for CBs either.

The salary cap gurus have agreed that there is money to add to all areas of the defense with starting quality players and a star or 2.

Having said, 2 CB free agents and 2 S free agents mean some resigning. I would agree with getting a FA #1 CB though, but the focus should be multiple DEs.

Best DB on the team is Jeff Heath. When he plays he makes huge plays at critical times. Brown gets a pass because he is a rook.

Can ALL go. I don't know why none of.these guys can turn around for and spot a ball coming. It's odd that they are all that bad... and then you pair that up with no pass rush... it's bad.. I was stupid enough to believe Irving and Mayowa were going to cause problems yesterday... they're an f'in joke!

Forget the 'other needs'...concentrate ONLY on getting a couple impact DEs to generate some semblance of a pass rush and I think you'll see our line backers and secondary suddenly become a whole lot better
