Big mistake giving up a first rounder

I too hate the thought of giving up a first round.pick in general. But I will not fault GM Jerry for finally taking some gambles here like the old JJ from the 90s. You will never get anywhere playing it safe across the board.

I commend Jerry for letting his wrinkly sack finally descend again and acting like he has a pair of coconuts once more. Roll the dice and take some chances.

No point in having a good player for 2-3 years while the team is irrelevent. We need to be planning for the future with the #1 priority being a QB. We've given away some of the draft capital we need to get a SB callibre QB.

I hate when people say:

Dallas isnt able to draft/find a good QB, so Dak will do. [Most other teams have good QBs, some even have backups better than Dak].

Dallas cant rebuild via the draft - we only pick busts. [Loads of draft picks on other teans actually work out well].

So we have to make do while others try and win?

So I guess hoping for Reese, Faulk or TJ Parker, unless they go CB/S, and go Downs, Delane, or Terrell (although McCoy plays zone so Eber probably would want him instead)
Oh I am 100% confident that at least one of our 2026 1st round picks will target the best safety or CB in the draft. I won't rule out Jerry going hard after Downs.......he would give Eberflus the final piece needed for his scheme ( top DT, top MLBer and top safety or CB)

When is the last time Dallas drafted a quality quarterback in the first or second round?

Think back to Joey Galloway and that awful descent (after giving up 2 first round picks) with a degrading Aikman. Think to Herschel walker and all the draft picks that built young and affordable talent.

Giving up all of your ammunition for things that are already rusting.

Very very bad move.

And Dak wont be it.
Look at how immensely talented the defenses were the first 2 years of Parsons.

With these trades, Dallas defense is still worse than those years.

It is absolute insanity... But hey, Dallas fans have been none the wiser for a very long time now.

The closest Jerry got to actually making substantive changes was with Parcells when Dallas was a bottom feeder and he needed to market momentum of the Cowboys to get AT&T stadium built.

The only way the Cowboys improve is if fans simply stop watching them.
This complaint protest is 30 years old. Are you going to stop watching the Cowboys. I declared I was at the beginning of the season

ESPN and CBS are both calling Dallas "Losers" in this trade. They are 100% correct.

Dallas is getting a measurably declining player, and sacrificing the building blocks of the future to do so.
At 27 years old he is a declining player?

Get out of here with this nonsense.

In 27 the Jets will have three first rounders unless they trade . And 2 # 2’s in 26 . That’s a foundation of building
Go look at their wins for the last 30 years. Miserable franchise. They will find a way to screw it up.

Agreed. That pick could be our next franchise QB. Obviously, we might get lucky and GB has a catastrophic 2026 season. But odds are better that we will.

Hate to lose that pick for a DT in a losing season.

That's my issue with the trade as well. It seems the front office will try and build another good team around Prescott which he previously wasted (2022 and 2023 spring to mind) so it's all a bit underwhelming.

If the Cowboys draft a quarterback with the higher 1st round pick in 2026 with the intention of him sitting behind Dak next year then moving on from him and turning the keys to the rookie QB in 2027 then ok I'm fully on board with that as next season will likely be a transitional time before potentially being a contender from 2027 onwards.

But we all know the front office will throw their chips into the middle in the hope that Dak will take the team to the promised land which would seem ill advised based on the tape from the past 10 years.

Hmm I think of Guyton, Mazi, Charlton, Claiborne, Carpenter, and LVE as busts! It’s not guaranteed we will draft great players. I’ll take Williams we know what he brings to the table versus tge unknown. Just my opinion.
Exactly. When it comes to drafting defense, Micah's about the only very good one Jerry's picked...and a 5 year old could have made that pick.

In Dak we trust.

All of the sudden Dallas has a real defensive tackle, Williams and Clark should be nasty I would think. The Cowboys should be able to get pressure on the QB up the gut and yes, stop the run. Those two first rounders in April need to be a DE who can set the edge and pressure the QB and the best free safety available.
If they can keep Pickens then those 2 first rounders should be on defense. That’s going to be the big offseason question.

Let's examine.

This season is half-way over and could easily be burnt toast in a month. So likelihood is that Q plays two meaningful seasons. Massive price tag. Don't like the trade.

Drafted players are cheaper and come with double the years of player control.
Drafted players take time to develop. They also suck at drafting good DT. They have a 2-3 year window to take advantage of having Dak and CD. They don't have time. Yes in a vacuumed id Rather draft guys but they need to go for it, for next year.

You trust GM Jerry to get the most important position in all of sports correct with a pick? The same GM who wanted to draft Paxton Lynch and Johnny Manziel.

I swear some Dallas fans have selective amnesia.
Same guy picked Micah Parsons and Cee Dee Lamb.

Also, almost picking someone doesn't necessarily equate to making a draft mistake.

The use of "immensely talented", the first 2 years of Parsons lost me. Let's move on. Jerry made some moves, and we still don't seem to be pleased. The only mistake is to think the moves are finished and will save THIS season. These moves are part of 2026 to ensure, notably our defense, doesn't look like this ever again in the future.......ever again. We have a semi-pro defense on an NFL field right now.
