Big mistake giving up a first rounder

Oh I am 100% confident that at least one of our 2026 1st round picks will target the best safety or CB in the draft. I won't rule out Jerry going hard after Downs.......he would give Eberflus the final piece needed for his scheme ( top DT, top MLBer and top safety or CB)
They haven't taken a high safety since Roy Williams. I have to see it to believe it, but they finally have addressed the DT position that they ignored for years, so perhaps it is possible. They need that Branch type of safety, which Downs fits ideally. Due to his position, think he could slide outside the top 10.

Anyone complaining has no idea what Quinnen Williams is.

A lot of us wanted us to trade Micah for him straight up.

This is what all in looks like. No, not for this year but for next year. They are very lucky because normally guys like Quinnen aren’t available.

I disagree due to who they got. They didn't acquire a rental like Hendrickson, who is 30+ and needs a new deal for 2026.
They acquired a DT, in his prime, who is signed for 2+ more years after 2025. His cap hits are very reasonable too.
This was a short and long term acquisition. DTs like Williams are not in every draft, or even every other draft. It's rare to be in position(top 3) to draft someone with his skill set.

2027 draft is 2 cycles away. Dallas and/or Packers could be bad, middling or both making the playoffs. The NFL is very up and down for yearly rankings.

I don't expect our defense to be good the rest of the year, but it's a great building block for 2026+. Hell, even with the Wilson trade, if he's just average, that's great in 26 as long as Overshown doesn't die again.

There is a report that they had an offer for the Dolphin S.........if that's true, it's possible Jerry now agrees it is also a critical need. That's why I'm thinking he may go after Downs or draft a top safety

Exactly John.....I just posted something similar. Teams don't worry about draft talent or positions 2 years down the road. That is more of a media/fan thing........

Good point, I really want Fitzpatrick, but think A) his contract was too big after the Williams trade B) the comp was probably that 2nd rd pick that we traded away.

A early look at the safety prospect shows a few inside the top 50, which bodes well for our need.

AND......if the Dolphins considered trading him, there is a very good chance he will be available after the season via free agent ( released/cut)

If we drafted we'll in the first round I would agree with you. Reality is we draft like crap for the most part. Besides Micah what have we drafted defensively in the first or second round that performed well? The answer is very little. Facts are stubborn things.

We have to wipe away our thoughts of this teams roster construction. We didn’t think they valued interior linemen and they right now have Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams. I never in a million years expected that.

They sre gonna try to build this team through the draft….and I expect to see linebacker and safety addressed for sure.

I have no problems with the talent they’ve picked but for whatever reason it’s not working out. I commend them for realizing it and trading.

At 27 years old he is a declining player?

Get out of here with this nonsense.
He’s 28 in a few weeks.

His play this year and last are not up to his previous levels. I’m hoping that’s due to the Jets usage of him and their scheme. He does best when he is allowed to penetrate and work upfield.

Linebacker/Safety usually start coming off the board around the Packers pick. My biggest worry is addressing the edge position. Would like to have a veteran placeholder while we develop his replacement. I am still very interested in adding Hendrickson as a fa to a short-term type of contract.

Their thinking started shifting with they drafted Mazi.......think about, they had drafted a DT with a 1st rounder since Russell Maryland, except Marcus Spears. Hell, this time Jerry not only brought in Clark but doubled back for Quinnen Williams, the player he originally wanted before the Micah trade. It appears they are determined to 1) fix the position with high-level players and 2) avoid rookies

I agree, but that's getting a little greedy (lol). Stop while ya ahead (lol)
As I said, must take advantage of Dak's window. Once he is gone, you can go the Jets route.

Cap wise, I think after some restructures to Clark, Wilson's deals they still will be less than that 47 million parson got.

Hendrickson can be that high-level DE that is needed. That would give us THREE good new players ( Williams, Wilson and Hendrickson ) who came jump start this D back in the right direction.

I just wrote a post about possibly getting a package deal with the Williams brothers. Can Quentin convince his brother to join him in Dallas? That would finish the linebacking room.

Sign Henderickson, add Quincey and fix the secondary in the draft.

Yep. I don’t know who shifted this thinking but it happened. And I’m thankful they didn’t have to chase DT again.

I forgot about his brother Quincey......if he is a free agent, I'm sure he will be on Jerry's radar.....

I am not sure you heard or remember but Stephen Jones said after the draft, one of the reasons they drafted EZ so high was to get Parsons some help. That line of thinking may have changed but Hendrickson would certainly fit that bill.
