Dolphins | Team expected to make a push for Kemoeatu
Fri, 10 Mar 2006 05:23:06 -0800

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins appear to be making a strong move for unrestricted free agent DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu (Ravens), who could demand a contract in the range of five years for $20 million. Agent Ken Vierra said he has not had any conversations with the Dolphins about Kemoeatu, but he expects many teams to show interest in the Baltimore run-stuffer.

Browns already very interested and looks like Saban moving to 3-4 would accelerate with this sign. $20M over 5 years is a lot but frees up our draft.

$7.5M SB $1.5M CAP
YEAR 1 $ $1.0M CAP

$11.5 Mback loaded and not guaranteed. We can get him for a Cap hit of less than $3M.......

Since we just ponied up a ton of cash for Ferguson I seriously doubt we will pursue a big-dollar NT in FA. I wouldn't mind seeing us take Rod Wright if he is still there in the 2nd (as shown is some mocks I have seen). We also have some young guys like Ratliff and Johnson who can fill in.

If he's serious about that, I'll scratch him from my wish list... no run-stuffing NT is worth that kind of money...

Thumper, Rodrique Wright is too tall to make a good NT, I think his best chance of succeeding in the NFL is as a 3-4 DE...

Nope. Not with Ferguson on the books as well. You figure, most of the Cap increase is going to go twords the increased minimum salary requirements for Vets. You also have Witten, Roy Lee coming due and TNew up the year after. Right there, that's going to be a lot of Sheckles to shell out. I think we pass on him for that amount of money unless we can do something with Ferguson. Don't think you can have both.

I challenge you to find a legitimate mock that DOESN'T have Wright available in the second.

He's a third round pick right now on pretty much everyone's board.

I think Bunk is the guy we could draft and get good production out of.

he might have been an option, but after signing "Parcells player" Jason Ferguson last yr with 9mils in up front money, he probably isnt now

Ferguson was a waste of money, hopefully he earns some pay this yr because he sure didnt last yr

I disagree - we can sign Keamu for less Cap than we paid Glover and he's a better fit. Cap went up $15M plus too. I see depth a major concern at NT. Wright is a major unproven talent and not worth a second rounder or higher - JMO

Keamu signing sets NT draft table as after Ngata/Watson there are no true 3-4 NT's out there. Make mental note that Saban is going after 3-4 parts. No major suprise he's going 3-4 as are Jets next.:bang2:

What he said, it all starts at the nose, or doesn't if we don't get another one, don't forget Glover was starting last year on=ver Ferguson so I think we need another one, besides they get hurt alot on the nose..

Sexton really screwed us. For the entire second half of the season those three free agents actually hurt the Cowboys because they sucked so bad and took up valuable roster space.

There are problems you go out and solve and there are problems you band aid or go with a developmental guy. It's not possible to solve every problem in one year.

So it's a question of priority. If we decide to solve the issue at NT it means BP thinks Jason Ferguson isn't up to the job and the money be damned. It is possible he feels that way because we did spend time chatting up Gabe Watson at the Senior Bowl. I don't know. If he does, I trust his judgement and NT is an important position.

My thinking would be to band aid the position for now since we're paying Fergy top dollar already. A one year vet min deal for ancient mariner hotel Ted Washington works for me. Or use a late 4th we pick up through trade on a Montavious Stanley or a 5th on a Steve Fifta. Again it's about priorities. I'd like to think our 1st day picks are going to compete for a starting job either this year or next.

Another NT who I think is available is the guy from Pitts., Oleha . . . (whatever his last name is). The guy who put the hit on Palmer in the Playoffs last year.

I would look to the draft. The 4th or 5th would bring this kid from Utah, Fifita. He is short, strong, and stubby. About 6'0 340 lbs. He actually reminds me of Kemoeatu, who's younger brother is actually a pretty good OL prospect.

look for a cheaper shorter term guy. not gonna spend that much on nt's who have little impact during the games. maybe a adams or washington if no one in the draft
