Big reason for the Saints' struggles this year

...New Orleans’ repair job should start with the secondary. The Saints handed a four-year, $15.6 million contract to CB Jason David in the offseason, which looks like an awful decision in retrospect. David has been beaten short, deep and about every other way, although he has kept the starting job to this point. Payton and the front office will have to band together and do a better job of evaluating prospective secondary suitors this time.

More athleticism on the interior of the defensive line and at linebacker should be the next items on the list. Whether it’s through free agency or the draft, the Saints have to find a playmaker or a player that quickly turn into one at those positions.

I know he got roasted like 3 times for TDs against the Colts, I wonder how many TDs hes given up this year?

David is THE worst CB in the NFL this year. Absolute toast. Now McKenzie is on IR. The Saints have nothing at CB. I'd love to be playing NO in the playoffs.

Yeah their defense last year had the benefit of playing with a lead and the opposing teams offense under a lot of pressure to match the score.

Completely different story this year.

David was a bad signing.

But a few other things went wrong for the Saints. For example, they rank 28th in rushing offense.

The biggest reason for their struggles is that the hurricane was in 2005 and not 2006.....They rode the emotion off of that for all it was worthnnow its over.

That doest carry alot of weight, I think also the their offense was much better and higher powered last year. Remember, they had Deuce last year too.

Also it looked like early on this year that Payton was looking to get Reggie the ball TOO much. But the hurricane and unexpected play style of Payton definitely helped that team last year.

But their defense this year is just sorry.
