Bigger gap: Romo -> Orton or Orton -> Weeden

Disagree. I think Weeden can be a good backup in the NFL and being thrown into the fire right away is what killed him.

Romo to Orton is the bigger gap. I don't say that in support of Brandon Weeden. He's awful but Romo is a top shelf franchise QB and Orton is backup material. That's a huge difference.

I'd much rather we cut ties with Orton, if this organization is serious about winning, then there should be zero tolerance for players like Orton. He's not committed to football, and he's not hungry for a championship(or so it appears), so why keep him? Sure, right now he may be a slight upgrade over Weeden, but Weeden is actually working on his craft and could actually turn into something. Orton, not so much, he has zero upside at this point and will only regress.

And to answer your question, I believe the drop off from Romo to Orton is much bigger then the drop off from Orton to Weeden. I think Weeden can still develop into a respectable backup QB, he was really done an injustice in Cleveland IMO.

Romo is a franchise QB, Orton is a paycheck collector who no longer cares about football, even as much as to pick up a playbook. Their difference is monstrous. Weeden is terrible don't get me wrong, but Tony is the franchise.

Wasn't much of a drop off from Romo to Orton in week 17. Same case from Romo to Kitna as well.

A lot of fans like to think it's doomsday without Romo, despite all the available evidence pointing to the contrary.

I get what you guys are saying and in no way am I advocating Orton could replace Romo as the starter. I have watched Weeden in a few games and was not impressed. At least with Orton he has shown to not be a train wreck. Assuming Orton comes back and is 100% committed would you still want Weeden?

Weeden needs more experience before we can make an assessment. He was massively mismanaged to his serious detriment.

Still, by mid season, I'd say Romo over Orton will be the much greater gap.

Guys like Orton can fill in for a game or two though with some sue chess. Then teams game plan for them and they're back to their jag selves.

Btw, after two years in the NFL, Weeden actually has been better on paper than Orton was at this stage.
Both were pretty bad though.

Weeden is already 30 though so he needs to show something soon. Third year or not. Cleveland was the worst place for him.

That said, I believe the gap between romo and Orton is bigger. Weeden has just as good an arm as Orton. In a backup capacity, I think he can be just as good as Orton.

Weeden has upside, Orton's arse is half on the couch while the chance of him starting multiple games are strong. You need a QB to lead, he has no passion for the game. Get rid of him.

IMO, the gap between Romo to Orton is much greater than the other gap, because the gap of Orton starting to Weeden being the back-up is immensely different
