With this years draft looming and the Boys having two 1st round selections. I was wondering what 1st rounder/s of the past was/were the biggest bust in your opinion. Here are just a few names that some of us would probably like to forget. With the exception of Jim Jeffcoat...the early to mid 80'S was brutal.

Danny Noonan
David LaFluer
Shante Carver
Mike Sherrard
Kevin Brooks
Billy Cannon
Rod Hill

Just for grins! :D
Bobby Carpenter - Still too early to decide if were fair
Marcus Spears - Still early - but no way can we put him in the class of the guys above.

Gotta be Cannon, IIRC he never played a down for the Boys... the rest of those guys at least got a chance to stink the joint out...

1972 - Bill Thomas, RB, Boston College. I dont think he ever played.

Found where he played 7 games. Returned 2 kickoffs for 50 yards.

LaFluer was a decent player and gets lumped in with these busts all the time. He never lived up to his draft position, but he was never a slouch either. Great blocker, fair receiver and eventually sidelined with injuries. Contributed while he was here. Does anyone remember how much our running game fell off when he had to retire?

The most disappointing one to me was Carver. We needed that position SO bad when we took him. The PR office at Valley Ranch served up the koolaid and I drank up.

Complete 1st round busts hurt the team for so long. I would love to hit two out of the park this year with our firsts.

Does Joey Galloway count? We spent two first round picks on him and his alligator arms.

sherrard and lafluer were more hard luck cases than busts. both had health problems beyond their control.

carver and hill are at the top of my list.

rod hill is quite likely tom landry's worst ever draft choice.

Sherrard would of been a hell of a player if he could of stayed healthy. I think Lafluer would of had a solid but no great NFL career is he could of stayed healthy.

Noonan played for 6 seasons with Dallas, twice starting 16 games and did have 15 sacks. It could of been worse.

Carver was a bust in the fact that we were in desperate need of a pass rushing specialist at the time and were grabbing anything we could that may of solved our problems. He did play 4 years for Dallas and started all 16 games in 1997 recording 6 sacks. Not exactly the force we thought we were getting but with the name left on the list, not exactly the biggest bust either.

Brooks played 4 seasons in Dallas starting 15 games his last season in 1988. He did register 12.5 sacks in those 4 season. Not worthy of a 1st round pick but not the biggest bust on this list.

That leaves Billy Cannon and Rod Hill

Cannon played one season, 8 games and never recorded a tackle, sack, Int or TV time.

Hill played 2 seasons in Dallas, recording 2 INT's in 1983 and returning 23 punts for 271 yards and 14 kick off's for 243 yards.

Looks to me as if the award goes to Billy Cannon! CONGRATS BILLY:laugh2:

Darren McFadden *ducks for cover*

I'm ducking with ya because it is one of my biggest fears about selling the farm just to draft him.

In defense of Scott Appleton, though he did not play for the Cowboys, he was also drafted by the AFL Houston Oilers and did play in the NFL 5 years.

Billy Cannon Jr. hands down has to be our biggest bust of a 1st round pick.

Rod Hill was the biggest reach, and a definite bust, but at least he played briefly.

Rod Hill...

I don't consider Billy Cannon a "bust" since he was injured. We'll never know if he was any good.

I consider a bust one that we had high hopes for but never panned out as a good player.

I didn't have high hopes for Rod Hill. I couldn't believe we took him.

Will Bobby Carpenter become #1 if he never pans out in Dallas or any where else?

I agree Cannon showed signs of being a very good player before his neck injury, If I remember correctly he had the same condition which ended Irvin's career.

But Rod Hill on the other hand had a great vertical leap. Other than that I have no idea why he was drafted, he certainly couldn't play football.
