the incompetentice starts at the top bad really bad
That’s correct. I would have probably not paid Amari or Tank what they wanted. I would probably have a worse team for it but $40m extra per year just off those two guys.I kind of agree, but I think the true issue is overpaying the wrong people. We seem to think we can keep high end players and patch together the rest of the team.
I can't fault Jerry too much for paying dlaw as I was a fan of the move at the time. Looking back though would we have been better off trading him in his contract year, maybe pick up a 2nd rounder, then resign a guy like hitchens + have cash for a top fa DT or S? How much better is this team today with that type of move?
Thats the type of move the pats have historically made.
I think the worst thing this team does is over value (and over pay) it’s own home grown players. It prevents the team from being in free agents to fill holes.

Welcome to the board Jerry. Was wondering if you posted here.
Very good points. Jerry and Stephen have a hard time making decisions that would be viewed as against the grain in terms of “football people”.Paying Crawford was crazy. For the second year in a row.
But I can see how Jaylon, Zeke, and Lawrence got paid. Zeke and Lawrence coming off Pro Bowls, Jaylon makes one in 2019. They're getting recognition. If you don't pay Pro Bowlers, who do you pay?
And Lawrence was even at DE, making the Pro Bowl 2 years in a row. I wouldn't have paid him, but that's me. I don't care what people think. People would have howled and howled if Jerry had let DLaw walk.
Many saw Zeke sliding, but no one saw the fumbleitis coming.
And Cooper? Overpaying him was baked into the cake when we gave up a 1st for him. I don't remember too many people complaining about that in 2017. I groused, but that's me again.
Yeah, Jerry spent a lot poorly. I think he was trying to get guys signed before the bump in the cap - and then Covid hit. Lots of bets that didn't turn out well.
And *didn't* get Dak signed.
