The rest of the season becomes an audition.

Rather than let players think they can mail it in let everyone know that they are auditioning for a new head coach for next year.

They've quit on Wade Phillips, but if they've quit on the Cowboys then they need to go.

Yeah, it's a good reason.

Nice post, I agree 100%. I think that it's actually the only practical reason to do it, but it would be worth it at this point.

Jerry Jones just doesn't want a new coach associated with a losing team.

And if thats the case even though I disgust Garrett, I would make him interim head coach before I fire him in the offseason.

Just to let the players know, everyone is on notice. A new coach is going to make changes, you don't want to be one of these changes.

Actually I retract that a bit, I think putting Garrett in charge sends a really poor message seeing as he accounts for pretty much half the problem here.

He's the only alternative IMO, but in know way should be considered for the HC. Wade just has to go because the effort is no longer there.

Leave Wade in there, see which players have any pride in themselves, then go from there after the season with whatever coach you hire.

I agree with the OP in a way.

But the biggest problem with this is we dont know if a person Jerry wants to hire is willing to take the job mid season.

Maybe Jerry already talked to the new coach and he told jerry he would love the job but not until the season is over.

I liked when the fox pregame show was asking who would be the next coach of the cowboys. Strahan said "Jimmy Johnson"..... Jimmy's response was "whoever jerry jones wants to coach will be the next coach".....hmmm. I found it interesting Jimmy didnt rule himself out when he had the chance. He wouldnt even give a name. Some guys said Cowher.

btw... i dont think it will be Jimmy. But the idea is interesting.

I'm not sure that it is a serious audition unless next year's coach is this year's interim.

But yes, there is little point in keeping Wade around.
