Anthony Spencer seems to be turning it on the last few weeks. Maybe the strength is finally there in his knee and he feels more confident playing on it.

I think that it's no coincidence that Spencer's improvement seems to come as Mincey, who had a good season, seems to be getting stronger as well. Maybe they just compliment each other.

Tyrone Crawford is who we all hoped he would be. Losing Melton hurt but the other guys rotating in and out are pulling their weight (as has been the case w/ all guys on the D).

In this game... The 2ndary: I haven't looked at a replay of he game, but the coverage they were playing on Megatron/Tate worked well in the 2nd-4th QTRs. Looks like they made some adjustment after the TD.

Bruuuuuce...we can't seem to keep LBs healthy but when healthy, Dallas' LBs have been monsters out there. I hope he's OK and can come back. Can we get some stick'em for Carter's gloves btw?

We are in the playoffs without Sean Lee, Demarcus Ware, Hatcher and Claiborne. Probably around $25M toward the cap for all those guys.

And in their place we have Hitchens/Rolando McClain, Mincey, Crawford, and Sterling Moore/Patmon. Probably $7M? toward the cap for all those guys.

Another big surprise is Jeff Heath getting pro bowl votes for special teams. And I think I saw Heath getting playing time at safety against Detroit.

For me, it's Hitchens, hands down. To come in, as a rookie mid-round pick, and not only at one position, but at all three. And to even call plays on defense? Throw in the playing double the targeted reps with a high ankle sprain and play at a relatively high level? I'm convinced.

Mincey. At the start of the season I thought he was a malcontent spare.

My main reason on Mincey is he came in and took on a leadership role with this defense, when there were not many leaders. He has gone out to post one of his best season in the NFL

Mincey is a good choice. He plays the most snaps of anybody on the DLine.

Did you know that he lost about 25 pounds over the duration of the season?

Interesting.

I've hated on Mincey all year. But he has showed up the last three or four games. And it appears to be due to his weight loss.

That's why I hated on him. He had a rep for missing meetings. He came to camp overweight (290) and out of shape. And the first half of the season he was awful.

But I give him props for losing the weight and playing hard. He's still JAG! But it could be worse I guess.

Brave you you to show up in a thread about Mincey. You constantly bashed him in training camp and at the beginning of the season.

He has been the opposite of everything that you said. Garrett and others say he is one the hardest working and most energetic players on the team and he has become a team-first type of team leader.

It's funny that you're still trying to convince yourself that he is JAG. Just because a player is not a future Hall of Famer like the guy he replaced, does not mean that he is a JAG.

He's played above average these last few games. That's it. He is still JAG. And he was awful the first half of the year.

I'm giving him credit for losing the weight and giving a damn. He, Selvie and Hayden all do need to be replaced as starters for this defense to take the next step. Along with an upgrade to Church.

For me it has been Jeremy Mincey. With 6 sacks and steady play and a strong leader for this group.
He has exceeded my expectations

He's definitely been a pleasant surprise. It's always uplifting to see success coming from someone unexpectedly.

This.. He was the one guy I expected nothing from, especially not this soon..

Next in line is D Law. Didn't think he was big enough or strong enough to play DE and then he got injured on top of that, all of a sudden he looks to be coming on. Sky is the limit..

I'll tell you the biggest difference between this bunch of ufos compared to our so called super star cast with ware/Ratliff etc. These guys have no quit in them. I absolutely love that! Our old crew would of gave up no doubt about it.

Scandrick,

Many times in past years I have found myself fussing at Scandrick.

I can't think of very many at all this year. He is as solid as we have had at CB in a long while

Biggest Pleasant Surprise: Hitchens simply because he's a rook, and rarely do rooks step in and make such an impact

Biggest Not So Pleasant Surprise: Melton, not because of the injury but because of the inconsistency and not quite living up to expectations before the injury

I'm surprised that Selvie has been so useless this year. We were expecting him to be our leading pass rusher going into the season.

Selvie has disappeared as a pass rusher but he has done good job on running downs holding the edge. I think he comes out on passing downs.

Sterling Moore exceeded expectations, so did Ro and Mincey,,, in reality I didn't expect anything from any of these guys. It was all a big mystery if these guys would recover from their injuries or if they still wanted to even play.
