I believe he was a starter the last two years in Buffalo. I'm not usually a big fan of picking up other teams' retreads....thoughts?

For depth it might not be bad. Not really sold on Free or the red headed step tackle.

I misread "retreads" the first time I read your post. That made it pretty funny, but probably not politically correct.

Secondly, he might be better than McQuistan, but would it 1) be cost effective; and 2) be better in the long run to sign him and dump McQuistan? The team might still think McQuistan could develop into a solid player, maybe a Kyle Kosier type, and forgoing that for a 30-year-old stopgap might not be prudent.

Thirdly, is that South Dakota State in your profile picture?

I think it would make sense.

We probably draft OT next year in round 1 or 2.
It's a serious need.

Walker is a decent backup for probably 2 years and McQ is will probably be out of the league by then for general suckitude.

Not too worried about finances at this point.

Anything is an upgrade to Proctor and McQ. Pasho would have been nice as well... especially since he was signed on the cheap by San Fran.

Who knows what JJones is thinking? All around, I think he going to conserve his dollars this year with TO being cut and the state of our economy.

You never know why the Bills do anything:confused:

I can't imagine he'd be any worse than Big Red or Proctor...

Does anyone think we'd give him a call?

here's a funny reaction from a Bills fan:
I would've at least moved him back to RT, his natural position. As a Bills fan, I guess I'll assume my natural position: bent over to receive a kick to the groin and rectum.

He cant play. How many teams dump starting LTs five days before the opener if they think they can help at all.

It never ceazes me amaze me, how fans think, another team's trash, even if that's team talent is pretty bad, is better than what we have.

Did people even see how bad Steelers OL was last year? Talk about backups or starters, they were bad, and now Ben doesn't help by holding onto the ball, but still, that OL wasn't SB caliber or playoff caliber by any means. You can't have pro-bowlers or even starting Caliber backups these days anymore. At most you can have, as backups, that have a potential to do that. I think cowboys have that in Free, if he continues develop. He is not there yet, but I think he is getting there.

So quit this hand wringing because Media thinks they are paper thin. So is every team in NFL. Not sure any team in current NFL has a Tackle who can start in a in pinch for long term, if the starting LT goes down for season.

OL play is overrated the Colts, Steelers and Pats prove that every year... Jerry gave Procter a 2cd round tender for a reason, Procter can start for all of those teams!

Haha, I love the <insert random scrub> got cut, should we take a look? They have to be better than Demarcus!?1/1?

I called the Bears front office and asked if I could play and they said no, which technically makes me a cut player.... Should the Cowboys take a flyer on me? I mean, Austin and Hurd are always hurt but my knees feel pretty good after a surgery on my left knee in '04 :)

Yes, I would pick him up and drop McQuistan. He's started 65 games in the NFL, and a key starter on a very good Bills line 2 years ago. The Bills OL fell apart with the Peters hold out last year. I don't know why the Bills dropped him 6 days before the season ... I can't really explain anything the Bills have done the last 6 months. They want to go with a youth movement revolving around a 35 year old WR.

Haha, I love the "Ive never heard of this offensive lineman because I play Madden and fantasy football and believe teams win around the WR position, so this guy must be a scrub !1!11" comment.

OL play is overrated the Colts, Steelers and Pats prove that every year.

If the Pats don't consider OL important they sure show it in a funny way considering they spent a 1st round pick on their left guard, a Top 50 pick on their left tackle, a 3rd round pick on their current right tackle.

I'll grant you the Colts, but the Steelers merely got away with their OT situation because they have a 260 lbs. QB who has shown he can withstand an incredible amount of abuse. When Roethlesberger gets one knock too many and has to miss half the year, suddenly that OT weakspot won't be nearly as harmless.

The better option is to let another NFC East team pick this guy up and let our D run over his ***. We'd get more out of that move.

I heard today that he was cut for salary cap reasons.
Who knows? Got to be better than McQuistan right?

I agree. I see no reason why we couldn't at least take a look at the guy. He has started in the NFL and done fairly well. Maybe he's hurt, maybe he's unhappy with the Bills or his salary, maybe he sucks, who knows why they cut him. McQuistan isn't exactly a guy we couldn't live without, same for Proctor, so bringing in a guy who just turned 30 last week with starting experience, would not be a bad move.

The guys started all 16 games the last 3 seasons so he must have something.

I agree with you that it is annoying to see one thread after another about scooping up some other team's leavings but in this case the player in question is not some scrub that has played 4 downs in 4 years but a guy who started all 16 games the past 3 seasons and at a position of need in terms of depth.

I get what you are saying about not being able to have starting quality players backing up every position but when you get the chance to secure one it is worth taking a look at the least, which is what the OP was suggesting.

I would feel a lot better having Walker step in if Adams of Columbo got hurt than either Free or McQuistan.
