Blaming the HC, the DC, or even the QB is the real waste of time

Whenever I (or many other Cowboys fans) point out the central and fundamental flaw in the Dallas Cowboys and why they struggle year after year - thirty years now - to become a relevant team in the playoffs again, I often receive some fiery darts, lol. It’s fine, it’s an opinion forum.

So first let me say. - Yes, I know the following:
  • Some Cowboys fans think Dak Prescott is the biggest reason we suck. Despite the fact that he’s playing at a high level and that he and the kicker are the only things keeping us from being 0-6. Some folks on here are completely obsessed with Dak to the point of outright trolling silliness.
  • Some Cowboys fans think the head coach Brian Schottenheimer (the 7th HC we’ve had since our last divisional playoff win) is another big reason we suck. Too early for me to tell.
  • Many Cowboys fans believe our defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus (the 10th DC we’ve had since our last divisional playoff win) needs to be fired immediately so we can then hire the 4th DC we’ve had in 22 months. And we may have the least defensive talent in the NFL.
  • Some of our fans think we just need a trade or two for another weapon on offense or a pass rushing specialist on defense and we can somehow become…relevant? It’s a bad dream.
Here’s my point: Whatever you think about the QB, the HC, the DC or any other player or staff member associated with this team, or whatever magical trade you think this team needs, none of any of that is the deeper problem.

The reason we suck, the reason you hate the QB, the HC, the DC, the defense…whatever you are tired of. The REAL problem sits in the owner’s box. No trade, new HC, new QB, new Coordinators…whatever. Nothing will turn this around until the oldest GM in NFL history stops playing with his toy.

We have an owner/GM, and whatever combination of his family you want to include, that does not have a clue how to build an entire NFL organization - from top to bottom.

So feel free to dream of the perfect trade, the next QB we need, the next HC or DC…nothing will ultimately change until something changes at the top of our organization.

Harry and Lloyd are 100% the problem, we all know it starts there. They have no plan, never has, to build a program to win championships. Even if they had a plan, it would be the wrong one. They are football idiots.
The plan is to get people like us to keep buying what they sell. In fact, the only thing they know anything about is marketing and business.

I used to think/argue that we could win a super bowl w/ Jerry in charge. Unfortunately, I no longer believe that. He's gone out of his way to show all of us that he is a terrible GM and doesn't care.
100%. And I feel bad for many of our young fans who get fired up after losses like today because they somehow believe “if we just fired the DC” or “if we just traded for this guy”…Those are all band aids on an amputated limb.

Well I can tell you this, our defense will not get any worse if we tell Eberflush to clean out his desk and not come back.

It doesn't matter though. I don't enjoy following this team anymore and it's been that way for at least 10 years now. Taking another backup tight end in the second round who has no business being on the team may have been the final straw for me. That was the fourth one. How do you not learn from your mistakes, especially when you have so many holes on both sides of the ball. A second tight end is not a position of need and it never will be. It's just a perfect example of the incompetence of the front office.

Eber is irrelevant this season.

You don’t remember when three TE sets were the fad that Dallas tried to emulate?

I had an interesting thought earlier in the week about Jerry’s adolescent antics of flipping off fans last Sunday in NY behind his plexiglass booth.

It is a perfect representation of what he’s doing to all Cowboys fans who continue to pretend he’s not an embarrassment to this once proud organization and the Dallas community. People in the DFW area have pretty much had it with Jerry. If you don’t live here, you might not know it.

Yep. We suck and have sucked for a long time because of our owner and GM. Nepotism reigns supreme in Dallas and until he’s willing to accept he’s not a football guru (and his kids aren’t either) we can expect false hope and empty wins.

Well said J. The only reason I’m here is because this has been my favorite team since my dad took to me to see them play in the Cotton Bowl when I was a kid.

I’m here because I love the team and what it represents which is bigger than any owner or his kids. The Cowboys were America’s Team a whole decade before anyone had even heard of Jerry Jones.

That middle finger was to everyone who wants the Cowboys to be a functional organization. He’s been flipping us off for 30 years.

What if they made the in-game adjustments, key in on the run, and force the quarterback to beat them?

What if they made the necessary in-game adjustment on 4th and 3 to play press coverage instead of playing 7 yards off?

I believe the DC is very stubborn and refuses to make any adjustments.

Dallas wins with those adjustments so this is a coaching issue

I went to Six Flags not too far from the stadium this past summer and saw one person with Cowboys merchandise on.

Good luck to you.

You told us that in the old forum. I feel this defense is unwatchable. I got mad today and my wife told me I wasn't a good fan. I am not. I refuse to support that defense. Offense, I don't mind watching. But that offensive line today sucked. If that team had a pass rush it would have been bad. No hope.

And who hired the DC who's scheme doesn’t fit the players? It is Jerry
